HL King Tiger Report, Glen B
Its real early in the game.
HL King Tiger (IR) from Mato.
Ordered on the KT along with 3:1's on the evening of Sat. Sept. 17th.
Order sat in their system over the weekend and was processed this morning, now I have a tracking number so delivey should follow in a couple days.
Observations and pictures will follow, once I get it.
I will check it out "stock" for a couple days, then begin the transformation

Based on past experience, mine might show up as early as Wed. but I'm only a couple hours drive away.
I should have mentioned that I have the SLU for this one already and have these decals coming for it and am zeroing in of colours and markings for Abt 503 No. 314

Stince, do you habve an account with a sign in, etc. with Mato? Thats how I track my stuff, and that is slow getting your order to you.
Back to the rgularly scheduled KT program.
I even have a picture of the origingal 314 just before they loaded Abt. 503 on a train to Hungary.
UPDATE Sept 21/11: I have found out that the No. 314 in the picture is not a Porsche turrettank, I was fooled by the fuzzydetailaround the mantlet.
I am not sure why this one in the picture is "314" and that the Porsche turret tank used in Hungary was also recorded in several books as 314 of Abt. 503.
Just checked the tracking, it says it will be here tomorrow, I am surprised and not sure I believe that but we'll see.

That may happen this evening, I checked the tracking and it made it to the local UPS location at 3:00AM this morning; hat is quick.
We'll see if it gets here today, I have a couple batteries charged, just in case

It arrived in good shape, this afternoon, that was quick.
All the bits and pieces were there including the 3:1's and the spare Matorro KT tracks, its all good.
The Matorro tracks were crazy cheap;http://matomart.com/prodview.php?p=499
I only bought them because the 503rdhadspare tracks on the turret of No 314 in Hungary, according to later pictures there. This was the quickest, most cost effective way to get some links. It also looks like the MIGHT fit the HL but will reserve judgement on that for later when I start stripping it down.
As expected, it is big, I have included some pictures of it along side my Das Reich Tiger I for comparison.
Everything works well, for stock (darn Tim and the SLU , it has raised my expectations, along with the 3:1's).
It handles the grass and outdoor conditions quite well, it will be EXCELLENT with the 3:1's and SLU.
Tracks look good to me, we will see as time goes on but they appear durable IMHO.
Suspension works well.
More to follow as time progresses.

I think that "314" is not a Porsche Turret.
The Porsche is straight across the bottom and the Henschel has little grove at the bottom plus the back of the turret is notch up at the bottom (storage area?)

The mantlet looked rounded but the picture is a bit fuzzy and shadowed, but it looks like I was mistaken, now its back to square one on the research.
There was a 314 Porsche turret Tiger II in Hungary, it was one of two the 503rd had. Perhaps they got re-numbered? I have no idea.
There is documentation from several sources that two went east with Abt 503.

Source:http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/th ... che+Turret
The 3rd Company of sPzAbt. 503, after losing their Tiger Is in Normandy was sent to Mailly le Camp in France, east of Paris , to be refitted with the Tiger II. At Mailly le Camp they received 12 Porsche turreted Tiger IIs and 2 Henschel turreted Tiger IIs on 31 July and 2 August 1944. While at Mailly le Camp two of the Porsche turreted Tiger II experienced mechanical problems and were left behind at Mailly le Camp when the rest of the unit headed for action north of the Seine River and to the west of Paris in mid-August 1944.
The two Porsche turreted Tiger IIs were shipped back to Germany from Mailly le Camp to Paderborn, Germany being shipped on 26 August 1944 and arriving on 3 September 1944.
After 3./sPzAbt. 503 fought in the withdrawal through France to Belgium they were sent to Paderborn for refitting where the entire battalion was issued 45 Tiger IIs with the Henschel turret and the two Porsche turreted Tiger IIs that they had left behind in Mailly le Camp. From Paderborn they were sent to fight in Hungary. One Porsche turreted Tiger IIs was numbered 314 and carried the nameAnneliese. It was lost in March 1945 fighting in the east in Hungary. The fate of the other Porsche turret Tiger II is unknown.

I think I may pick up a copy of;http://www.amazon.com/Kingtiger-Heav.../dp/185532282X
This is a quote from it;
....although they were in Hungary, not Russia in the fall/winter of 1944/45.

RE: HL King Tiger Report, Glen B
Hi I have Been upgrading mine ,Have fitted brass bushes to the wheels ,If you do this you may need to tank a little of the face of the suspension arms Only on the inner wheels to allow room for the Tracks to pass .Standard wheel alinement is a little tight between the rear wheels and the front wheel ,I found this when aI fitted Metal tracks after bushing the wheels the tracks jammed between the wheels.

RE: HL King Tiger Report, Glen B
Glen, the picture you have showing the original 314 being the Henschel type would be correct S.Pz.Abt503 may have been over strength and had a few tanks in reserve and once the original 314 was destroyed a spare tank was renumbered 314 Anneliese this was not un-common it is known that turrets from tank’s being changed for various reasons though you do have a reference to what the camo pattern would have looked like
a very good book is "Combat history of Schwere Panzer Abteilung 503"
