I have run the 160 on the bench and have run extensivly the Moki 150 and 215 both with the Kunkel turbulator. The 160 with its collector ring sounds deeper with the ring on it. Sounds very good! The greater number of cylinders sounds smoother. The vibration and eveness of the cylinder charging are far superior. You can touch the engine after running. I might need the APS fuel pump so I can place the fuel tank on the CG. It is far behind the engine. -Tom

If you ment that The evolution/seidel sounds deeper than Moki, it is hard to believe. It has smaller cylinders and therefore should sound more of race engine whereas Moki sounds like muscle car. More cylinders sounds smoother but it also makes the sound smaller race engine. I would imagine the new7 cylinder moki to sound smaller that the 5 cyl equivalent. So all of these are personal preferences ofcourse. If you compare  ferrari sound to a Dodge Charger... well that too is personal choice...

I'm about to by two radials next month. Either Evo/seidel or Moki. And Moki is ahead at the moment since there are no good videos available yet for the evolution to hear the actual sound with the collector ring. And also there is the size matter. The evo/seidel might be better suited for  non cowled models. And that makes the engine less attractive for many.

I believe Evolution to be the third owner of seidel engines. Well I don't know if the Indians still manufacturing the UMS/seidel.
Moreover, in Europ the Evo/seidel radial has the same price than Moki so for most europians it is easier to go for the Moki.

No not what I ment, the Evolution sounds deeper with the ring on than off. The Mokis still sound deeper than the Evolutions. And your ownership explanation is incorrect. The Seidel design is manufactured by UMS in India and has been for some time. UMS is even still engraved on the engine along with the Evolution name. Some folks have been frustrated by difficulty getting Moki parts. -Tom

Had hoped for some more input to show its potential & durability. A flight perhaps?
Most of the clips of the engine running so far have been very short.

Hi,

Here is a first look at some flying video. As you can gather we had some technical issues with the video recorder and it makes me realise how this technology has progressed.

We should get an opportunity next week to get out again with a far higher quality video recorder

For my Beast to improve cooling for the 160 I did the following modifications the the fuselage. There were already cutouts in the sub firewall and I worked around the main spruce spares for the cooling ducts.

I may be wrong but the 2 strokes have the RPMs the 4 stroke engines has tork so I would think a 4 blade 32-14 would pull a 45lb A-1 skyraider with a 15"dia cowl,I'd like to know if thats not wizzin in the wind.

I was having problems with cold starts on my 260, it wouldn't fire using the choke and I had to prime it with a little gas in the carb to get it to fire so I called Steve (DerJager) to see if he had any issues. His engine is a preproduction model with a different choke setup but he confirmed what I was thinking was the problem . The choke is a simple flapper that covers the carb inlet . My flapper was both twisted to the side and not laying flat on carb face so it wouldn't seal, I took it off and tweaked the arm slightly ,centered it and bingo starts right up. Any other guys with this choke setup might want to take a closer look at it.

Hey Roy,
That's a nice chunk of machinery right there now. What are you going to install it in. Just curious in the video when you pulled it back it just died. You dont anticipate any problem going from full throttle to idle transition do you?

Roy, Just answered part of my on question. Looking back in the thread I see you're putting it in a 122" P47. What kit is that if you dont mind me asking. I am struggling with a Don Smith 122" P47 myself and finding many issues along the way. Just Curious.
Thanks,
Charles
