Default Custom boat transmitter!

I looked everywhere and could not find a single other thing like this so I had to make my own! I cut the parts out on my CNC and used the pots and electronics from a 6 channel fly sky radio. The wheel and gears were made from plastic molds also made from my CNC.

How has no one done something like this before or did I miss them in google?

I'll tell you what, your radio would sell like hot cakes if you put it into production!!

Ditto to what Tom said. I think you have a very real opportunity to start a great little company with this. Please keep us all posted.

Tnx...Dave

Hi Moo,
I second that! (Tom’s Response)
This radio is exactly what everyone in this hobby dreamed of and no manufacturer could produce.

It's been done many times before, but it's been limited to custom and one off's.

I imagine that you could sell a kit, or a pre assembled box and let others assemble it.
Otherwise it might run into copyright issues with the electronics.

You could use Hobby King equipment... The Chinese don't pay attention to copyrights...
Then selling complete units would have plenty of potential.

I am actually thinking of making it a build it yourself kit. I forgot to mention that its 100% modular. Each panel can be moved around and if I make a kit I will make a variety of modules like bow thruster, single throttle, blanks etc.

I'd definatly buy one. Have you figured out a price or have one in mind if you are going to sell them.

You said this was built from a six channel radio but I only count five; Rudder, two throttle's, two on/off with trims (?). BTW, I see no trims for the Rudder or Throttles or, at least, an indicator mark, for reverse.

Am I being a "Devils advocate" here? []

1 channel is unused for the boat I have. The pot is just taped to the inside. There are no trims really built into the modules. I could design some in maybe but for now I just calibrate it by adjusting the pot before tightening them, it works. I will be selling it a kit I think. I need to fix a few things and get a good way down to produce them quickly. Not sure hows a good way to sell them, I hate the eBay marketplace (fees) and I don't have a website or anything. Maybe just here on the RC Universe marketplace?

Moo...i really like the idea of your producing them in some kind of a kit form. It solves a whole lot of issues/problems for you. I, for one would be interested in at least one. And you are right on the money just doing word of mouth here on the forum and stay away from ebay. Their fees are getting out of site!!!! Plus you want to keep this endevour fun and not over-whelming. Sooooooooooooooooo, when can you start shipping? LOL

Nice idea!
Even though there have been similar radios before I don't remember any to modify existing radios into custom radios.
I say go for it!! Dave.

Just wonder when I get to reverse, needs an indicator so my brain doesn't get dizzy(er).  And don't say when the boat starts going backwards.  With two sticks it could also start going around in circles!

Just make your own tick marks on the throttle positions.

As I said in another post, that's fine, but they should be at the same position for port and starboard engine I would think, and there's no trim tabs to make it so.

I think he said the guts are from a Fly Sky radio, which is a computer radio. So you could if you needed too, adjust the servo trims via the ATV or Endpoint controls for the throttle servos inside the Tx programming itself.

Count me in for one: I got your thread from “Kmot” thread on RC Group. This is a great idea, sell a kit, or a pre assembled box, and let your customer provide the electronic. I for one have a lot of extra radios that I don’t use because I keep upgrading.

Thanks Ralph

I'm 100% for sure making them. I will have them up for sale sometime next week. I've added trim tabs on everything and even a dial indicator on the wheel module to show which direction it is. I'll also be including a sticker sheet. Working on the final prototype model now.

Price estimates:
empty shell - $65
steering module - $35
throttle module - $25
blank modules/simple hole layouts - $8

Still working on making controls for:
- bow thruster
- single throttle
- single throttle + holes for switches modules

I've decided on a name for it as well, "Marine TX1 Radio System".
