Looking at the new HPI Recon... .. .. I can't find any videos or anything on it yet. I know its new, but I thought for sure even like a commercial type video. Its 1/18 w/ 2.4ghz for around $100! The chassis reminds me of the Associated RC18. Anyone hear anything or seen anything in action?

I don't think there's any chance I won't be picking one up... how could I not! The price alone beckons!

I've had my MR for bout 2 days now. It seems to be a pretty solid lil truck so far. I have an RC18T as well & I gotta say I like prefer the design of the MR to that of the 18. I really dig the stock Transmitter as well. Thats usually the first thing to go but I like the way its designed not to mention it only takes 4 batteries! I'll put a vid up on you tube soon as I get a chance as there is NOTHING on you tube bout it. I think I'll eventually go brushless in it as well since my RC18 is and that thing jus screams.

Can you post some pics of both the Recon and 18t side by side?

The Mini Recon is a rebadged pro-pulse with HPI electronics. Good little trucks for the price. Better steering than the original rc18 because of the bellcranks. But nothing really new over the propulse save for the HPI electonics.

Here's some side by side pix. Yeah its a clone of a clone of a clone lol. Megatech Megapro Truck> Pro Pulse T100> Maverick Atom XT> HPI Mini Recon.
The parts on this seem pretty flexible which I like, less likely to break things. The only problem I've found so far is the spur gear cover isn't sealed as well as I had hoped, so beware of small or fine gravel. I think I have a pretty good fix for it. I'll have pix up for that soon as its done.

& I figure if its gonna be monster truck, it needed some new dubs. We'll see how they workout. I had em on the RC18 & they were kick ass for doing triple back flips.

Are there any parts on the 18t that would work/fit the Recon?

electronics, wheels, shocks & maybe the diffs. It one of those things you'd kinda have to experiment with. My RC18 started out as a Sacker Sport & as parts broke I replaced em. So now its all authentic Associated parts with the exception of the shocks, dog bones, body & wing. (and electronics)

Body wise if you could find something that didn't have pre drilled holes you could make your own to fit. As for the Losi mini 8 you'd have to take take ur chassis to u LHS & jus set one on to see if it would fit. If you were gonna convert it to a buggy you'd prolly have to get shock towers & wing mount from either a Maverick atom XB or the ones of the propulse or megatech buggies. I have a 1/16 Monster XX body I plan to put on mine. Those things came with cool bodies, rims & tires but the rest of it was complete sh*t. It was by FAR the worst mini ever made. 20 mph in any random direction. almost ended up at the bottom of a storm drain. The 1/10 is pretty sick tho but thats for a different thread.

Oh and a couple peeps have put some vids up on you tube bout the MR, They beat me to the punch. So you guys can get a general idea of what it can do.
A friend and I are finishing up our 1/18 backyard track this week, should be pretty dope when its done. I'll put up a vid soon as it s done.

I've been looking at this thread every time a new post comes up. Now I'm going to say something lol.   If i had $100 to blow, I would definitely buy the recon. It looks pretty sweet. And being from HPI, you would guess it was to be made from good wuality products and be able to take some sort of bashing. I would throw a brushless kit in it and let 'er rip!   Anyone wanna trade a mini-t for it? :P

I second that I have a Losi 1/24 Rally that was $100 & while I do like it... it is not 2.4Ghz ....& a bit slower (unless the optional lipo kit is used... approx. $40), so thinking on that, I may be selling the ole Rally w/upgraded shocks & towers for the Recon. Same price point and can be my little off road basher.

They're plastic. I'm gonna do some checking to see if these will work in it. :http://www.asiatees.com/display.php?Team-Associated-RC18-Late-Model-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=Team%20Associated&model=RC18%20Late%20Model&id=40091&code=gous10
Then brushlessnesssss

I just ordered mine about 5min ago! I also ordered a motor heatsink for it while I was at it. I'll just need to find an adapter for the battery connector.... or perhaps just switch it over to the Traxxas high volt connector like everything else I have has.

Hey Ozzy,

Depending on what connector your using you may not have to switch it over. U can get the traxxas adapter and if should work fine.
