No idea, man.. but I am guessing in a larger scale manufacturing setting, they got to be very careful with contamination.. so maybe some of those processes were required to make sure they don't mess up a whole giant tank of beer? No idea... I don't know anything about beer making.. !

Maybe.

But thank goodness for the vortex-necked bottle from ML, right? That way I can throw it down my gullet even faster.

Seriously, it must be funny being a beer marketing guy thinking up ideas every year:
"what about a sticker on the label that turns BLUE when the beer is cold! yeah!"
"what about a super-vortex neck on the bottle so you can supposedly pour it "better"? yeah!"
"what about a can that has a lining so that IT TASTES LIKE IT'S FROM A BOTTLE? Genius!"

it cracks me up

...I wish I had that job.

pasteurizing beer seems redundant to me. unless i'm mistaken, pasteurizing is a process of killing bacteria but you'd think the alcohol would do that. i imagine cold filtering is for the more temp sensitive brews to keep them at the right temp or a pre-filter stage before the mix is cooked.

...but when you're "cold filtering", what are you filtering? The bacteria? Like, there's a special "filter" that doesn't let bacteria, but lets other particles through?

I think it's hogwash. Crapola. Snake oil. Etc, etc.

...maybe I should google it.

After some quick googling, it appears that they do indeed filter particles out, although it sounds mostly like a way to filter the yeast particles out (I do so by letting the yeast settle to the bottom, for example, to get a clear beer). Heat pasteurizing is another way to do it. "Cold" filtering does so with the beer chilled, for easier filtration.

Not really a way to kill bacteria, but rather a way to filter it so it's clarity is higher....or so I think, anyway. I read quickly.

Talk about filtering.. will be doing oil change on the new Camry this weekend.. yeah, only like 1,000 miles.. but do not like Toyota's idea of having first service at 10k miles.. (synthetic oil, blah blah blah) Just a way to save themselves money, I think.. since now they are offering free maintenance for 25k miles.. similar to the like of BMW, etc.

25k miles = 2 oil changes.. crazy..

So I am doing the 1,000 miles, then 5,000 miles, then let the dealer do the 10k oil change..

as a beer connoisseur, i find raw, unfiltered beer has the best flavor, cold filtering makes it taste like pee- the only reason i think cold filtering is around is because cold filter beer stays clear when super cold, regular filtered beer is foggy.

and as far as filtering and pasteurization? my favorite beer, cooper's extra stout, is BOTTLE fermented and has a best AFTER date, effectively becoming stronger and more flavorful with time (much like wine) yes its murky, has floaters, dark like sludge and has a dirt brown head but its a strong, smooth beer with character and a little toasted biscuit and chocolate hints.

when i take a sip of beer i don't want it to say "beer" take another sip "beer" another sip " beer" i want it to be like "smooth-wheat" take another sip, "bitter hops" take another sip "citrus notes"

i don't drink to get buzzed or drunk i drink because i like the flavor, just like i don't smoke because of the nicotine, i smoke because of the flavor and aroma.

i still think 5K is about as far as you want to go on a oil change, its not the oil im worried about, its the filters, they can only hold so much carbon and metal, ive seen some collapsed and torn filters on toyotas that go past 8k miles on a oil change.

this whole 10k oil change thing is just about money and saying the cost of maintenance is lower, the car may survive the 100k warranty, but its not going to thrive and make it to 200k or more, even if it does don't expect it to be as happy as an engine that only goes 3-5 miles on a oil change. also something to note on some cars it says change the oil every 10-15k but it tells you to replace the filter every 5k, that's sneaky in my book.

3k is when i do it, and 5k on a modern car with synthetic.

Did you get a Camry, LB?

ThunderbirdJunkie has already put 2k miles on the VW. That little SOB likes to be driven...and hard. No brake fade, rotors aren't warped yet...Firestones that are on it are HORRID, so in the next few months going to be budgeting for a set of 235/35 or 235/40-18 Goodyear Eagle GTs and OZ Superturismos. Too bad BBS LMs are $1,200ea, gonna have to save that for the next T-bird build.

European cars typically have great brakes, my Volvo would almost never fade and enjoyed being drivin hard. the beater im driving now (1987 town car) just laughs at you if you hit the gas, however the brakes are surprisingly good.

Nice hotel, I take it? Have fun in Boston! Too bad the Bruins lost in OT.

Better pics of the CR-01 and the terrain I mess around in. Bent links FTW! Nice weeds, eh?
