I got a problem....Mom found out about RCU, and she doesn't like the fact that I'm starting to become a fellow lounger. Since I'm almost 13, she thinks I should hang out with the younger crowd. But I can't do that because I'm homeschooled and we live out in the middle of the country where houses are 500ft apart on a little 1/2 mile dirt road where there are only 8-9 houses. (And all the houses are full of elderly and middle aged people.) I have 3 sisters, and I'm the only boy. All my friends moved away and live in Holland, Fruitport, etc. My nearest friend is 20 min away. I'm a total RC freak who is way too absessed with it. I've looked at other sites, but you guys here seem to be the nicest.  What should I tell mom?

tell her everyone else your age is either high, pregnant or drunk (yes, i know of a person who was pregnant in middle school. i also knew stoners and a few people who got drunk back then too. my school was just full of promise, wasnt it ). if that doesnt work, try boy scouts. there's bound to be a group near you and you can learn some out-dated things there i know there is a salvation army church in the area that at lest used to have a club. if not, grand rapids isn't exactly on the other side of the state. alternatively, the tracks usually have a wide range of ages on race days. i've heard of 5-year-olds racing.

Taking apart the CRT.5 for winter cleaning, and WOW those set screws for the front/rear center shafts are in there tight. I think I already stripped one. Gotta try penetrating fluid, heating it up, fun stuff like that.

Ofna assembled it mostly for me from the factory, so I can blame them and not myself.

Better too tight than other RTR's where they work themselves out. Are you using a good hex driver? Sometimes that makes all the difference in the world.

Very true - overall I'm pretty pleased with it, it's great quality. I just want to check the bearings there and need that taken apart to check.

I hear ya on the hex drivers - mine are probably "ok" (Associated set, reasonably nice, but not the best). In retrospect I should have tried the penetrating fluid first before cranking on one and stripping it (mostly). Live and learn.

Tell your mom that RCU is by FAR the most family oriented site in the hobby. Other sites have more drama and less strict rules concerning content, attitude, etc. I keep my eye on the lounge thread, but the last post I deleted in here was a very, VERY long time ago.

If you need the insane optical zoom, its a great camera. Bear in mind though, that it can only do 720p, while most smart phones are nowadays capable of 1080p recording. Personally, I question the value of 1080p, as the file sizes involved make manipulation very troublesome, and the difference on a normal computer screen between HD and 'full' HD is not very great. On a 50" tv it would be something else, but for general use, 720p is fine and will keep file sizes more manageable.

True, true. There's another I used to frequent that has gotten to the point where I avoid most of the threads I see due to the drama and all that, so I don't go there much anymore except for specific reasons.

People slamming each other, way too many political arguments (not discussions, since that would imply civility - these are just yelling matches with 30% truth to them), stuff like that. It's just dumb.

I really don't need another belt 4WD buggy, but I still haven't gotten a CAT since they re-introduced it....I kinda miss the purple though.

Pretty thick CF too. But I'd probably break it with the bashing I do.
