So who's going to the DOGS Giant Scale Fly-in at Wright Patterson next weekend? Has anyone been to a previous one that wants to describe the experience? What about extra-curriculars? Does anyone want to do an RCU meetup a la Joe Nall?

Well.... I'm hoping to go to the show and visit the Museum. I was planing on taking my Jug but I have not had the time to get a few more flights before the show. If all goes well I will be there Saturday to a least enjoy the show.

There is new news on this event. A good friend of mine, founder of the GodSpeed Flight Demonstration Team will be on hand giving intro flights to anyone wanting or willing to learn about RC. I know that 99.99999% of everyone here knows how to fly, etc, but if you know of anyone who would like to try this. If you need to know about this, my friends EMail address is dennis@gogodspeed.com I should be there for the most part, and ther is info about his orginazation on the web at www.gogodspeed.com

This is a chance to bring the youth into our hobby. I'm for certain that alot of the Dayton natives will be willing to try this ane learn about airplanes!!!

Come one, come all!!!

Enjoy!!!

Chris~

It's agood show to go and see.A lot of flying going on they have always had a good lunchtime show about a hour long or better.
You will see planes you won't see anywhere else, there are quite a few big venders there wanting to take your money having show speicals. And lets not forget the good food.Addmission is free and so is the parking. If you get to hot you can always go to the Air Force Museum that is right there.

Last year a large scale B-29 flew to altitude and dropped the orange X- 1.
As the X-1 neared the crowd the solid rocket was ignited and zoomed up a couple hundred feet to then glide in for a landing. Very impressive. The warbird flyby is equally impressive.

Well, I went, but I didn't... got there way later than planned (8:30am Friday), took way too long setting up, got on to the flight line at 12:30 to find that my PT-26 was unmanageable on pavement (like on rollerskates on an ice pond covered with ballbearings), took a break and got half way through the vendor row when they all started packing up. About a half-hour later a humdinger of a squall came through, wiping out the rest of the day's official activities (and a few easy-ups, too). Some time around 6 things cleared up, and the after hours flying kicked in. Got one flight in with my Fleet, went to dinner, thensaw the weather report calling for an 80% chance of T-storms over night and a 70% chance of rain and storms the rest of the weekend, and threw in the towel. We packed up for home, but of course it never really stormed all night and didn't rain all day today as far as I can tell, so I missed all the fun for nothing. Oh, well, maybe next year... Thanks to Gary and the DOGS guys for a nice time, even if it was cut short.

Went to DOGS and flew both Saturday (8/30/03) and today (8/31/03)

Flew the PITTS on Saturday and got up early today and flew a buddies fun fly plane, they warned us weather was coming in so we packed up in the rain and I drove home 6 hours in it.

Saturday was overcast and weather improved around 5. Went to Museum, worth the trip just for that, and saw IMAX show, nice.

Having pictures developed tonight and will try to scan in and share.

Nice noontime show with all the BIG DOGS (pun!!!!) there and they showed their stuff along with war birds.

My pics should show more of what I am talking about.

disappointed. They always have had a good show. There seemed to be plenty of vendors Although I must admit, there wasn't as much warbirds there as I would have like to see. There where a ton of EXTRA's though...

I don't know what they did on Saturday, but I hope that next year they set some serious time aside for scale bird only flying, as they advertised that they intended to do this year. They didn't on Friday, and I found it quite uncomfortable flying scale with the aerobatic crazies...
