Brief backstory...skip past if you don't care.

-
Several years ago I got a new job, moved away from my original R/C club...then proceeded to bust up a couple airplanes/helicopters. I took a few years off.

I'm back now looking for an aerobatic .46 sized ARF and it seems the main websites I used to frequent (Tower and Horizon) seem to have about 1/2 the selection (maybe less?) in the .46 ARF category. Perhaps the economy caused them to downsize, maybe its the electrics gaining popularity, maybe more people are flying bigger birds...I don't know. In short, I've been pretty disappointed w/the options on these two sites...Horizon in particular seemed to have an incredibly small selection in the category I'm looking at.

I had narrowed my choices down the the GP Matt Chapman Cap, and the AeroWorks 540T Edge. I had a Kyosho Cap at one time and although I liked it, it never really felt solid...always on the verge of snapping out. Given this, I am currently planning on getting the Edge (Edge on Tower).
-

Now, on to my questions/assumptions about the .46-.61 AeroWorks Edge 540T (which I want for sport/light 3D):

1. Being away from the hobby for so long, I just want to confirm that AeroWorks is still known for quality aircraft/hardware.
2. Judging by the sizes of the control surfaces, this is probably not going to be a 3D monster, but should perform most respectably.
3. I have a ThunderTiger .46 Pro engine that I'd assume just use in the airplane unless it will be underpowered to the point of crippling it for sport flying/light 3D (I used to briefly hover my Hobbico Avistar w/it).
4. Are there any other large/trusted websites besides Horizon/Tower that have sprung up in the last 4 years or so...I'm not impressed w/these site's 40 sized ARF selection anymore.
5. Who are the other manufacturers similar to AeroWorks that sell high quality ARFs that fit what I'm looking for.
6. Anything else I should know about this aircraft?

Thanks RCU community...its been a long 4 years since I've had any substantial presence here
Philip

*Edit*
I don't want to derail my own thread, but I had also glanced at the Phoenix Edge 540 (Phoenix Edge). I have no exp. w/Phoenix, so that kinda scares me...

Hi Philip,
You said you took a "break" for about 4 years....how about 30 plus years? That's how long I was gone. I came back about 4 years ago and the changes I found in RC were amazing. Anyway, you are looking for a good aerobatic 40 size ARF from a reputable mfg. May I suggest the VENUS 40 ARF by Great Planes. I have been flying the Venus II with an OS 120AX for about 2 years. It is a "Great Plane". I have the Venus 40 ARF new in the box and don't plane to build it. If interested, please let me know. Regards JC in Texas

Funny you should mention that plane. I have one in my garage right now (stripped of gear). I really like the plane but am looking for one designed somewhat for 3D (don't recall it being all that 3D capable). Thanks for the suggestion though.

P.S.
You have a 120 in it!?!?!?

I have an Aeroworks Edge 540T 46/61 size.

I love it. But I have an OS Max .75 on it. And it balances perfectly. The airplane behaves like a much larger model. I definitely can recommend this airplane.

But I would not use a .40 or .46. Go at least with a .65.
