as title states , i'm after peoples thoughts / experience ,
thinking of buying either model as i have a NGH 17cc petrol looking for a new home . will the 17 fit in the cowl of the p40 as i have not seen one to judge it by, will i struggle for room with the extra gear that has to be fitted batt /igition unit etc
know its down to my own preference at the end of the day

Status: offline 		I just finished putting together the VQ FW190 (60 size) with a OS 91 FX, Lado electric retracts. Didn't want to use mechanical retracts and it would be hard to find space for an air system.

Plane came out at 9 lbs. Haven't flown it yet, but getting close.

Don't know anything about the P-40

thanks for the reply , think its wise choice on the electric retracts , had the vq hurricane once that was a tight fit to get basics in , nice plane though , got any pics of the 190 let us know how she fly,s

Status: offline 		I managed to stuff a DLE 20 into a VQ Hurricane. I was still tail heavy and had to mount both receiver and radio batteries under the cowling. I'm using Spring Air retracts and enlarged the wheel wells to use 3.5" wheels for our grass runway. Using a Graupner 3 blade 15-8 prop. It is over powered but flys great. With regard to the VQ P-40, I have one with Lado rotating electric retracts and a Magnum .91 FS. I moved the gear to a more scale location when I installed the Lados. It weights 9.2 lbs and flys great. I've thought about installing a DLE 20 in the P-40 but there is not enough length between firewall and front of cowl. I would have to cut off the front of the front of the firewall box and move firewall back about an inch. Then I would have to move the fuel tank back and to do that I'd have to move the servos back. So I just havn't.

Status: offline 		I had the 190 but she was electric. I went with the eflite electric retracts, they worked fine but I cut the legs short and soldered on a pair of oleos. She flies great. I may even have some video of it flying.

the 190 looks great better than i thought , pic ive seen seem to show the cowl quite blunt but the front of yours looks quite good

a few guys at my club have VQ planes.
The hurricane tends to be very tail heavy.

I have the 109 which I love to death, it's a cheap plane but one of my favorites.

I also have the p40, I love this plane too, mine is the larger size with flaps. She is a wonderful bird in the air, it has an asp 91fs in her, there is about 10mm between the rocker cover and the cowl, so there is plenty of room in there.
The only bad thing is the crappy rotating retracts, they have an enormous amount of slop in them and the ball links pop off continuously so the wheels end up facing side on then an ubrupt nose over and broken prop.
I put the fixed gear back on mine, If I get around to it the lado rotating retracts are about the only one I would trust to put in her, but they cost more than the plane !!

I can't tell you anything about the 190, but I plan to get one myself.

PS the normal side retracting retracts that vq supply don't have the slop that the rotating ones have, my 109 retracts have been great.
Seriously buy that plane as well, mine has a 91fs in her (bigger than advised but balance works well and performance is outstanding)

Status: offline 		andym: did you have to paint the "over engine" gun covers? Mine are the color of the underside of the plane. The "humps" that go closer to the cockpit are the right color green. I was wondering if it was a VQ error or if they were supposed to be part of an underwing installation.

Status: offline 		Andy: did the maiden flight on my and more on my VQ FW-190 yesterday. What a nice flying plane!! It is a very smooth, responsive aircraft. Quick but not jerky. a few clicks of downtrim and left aileron trim was all it needed. Lands nicely. No video, but here are a few pictures.

Status: offline 		Flew the FW-190A8 a couple more times. Looks good, but I lost the side hatch. The magnet closing system is apparently not strong enough for a glow engine vibrations. Even though the vibration level was not high, I think it kind of sanded the hatch, making it slide more easily. By the fourth flight, it slipped out somewhere in flight. Nobody saw it depart so its probably gone for good. A lot easy to replace than a lot of things!
