I have a TT 25 and 46 PRO both great engines. I need a 90 size 2C and was wondering about TT. Does anyone own a TT 91? If so where can you buy one?

Hi All,

I've got a problem with an TT54FS, it run great for about 1 year, flying most weekends and then suddenly lost power. I send it in to TT for repair and now I got a real problem. Ever since I got the engine back, it starts good, just to trow the prop every time. I tried other plugs, running it rich and basically tinkert with it for hours without progress. I gave up on it and put it in the box. Now I'm in need for an engine this size and hope anyone of you has an idea.
Should I try to fabricate a shim to lower compression? How thick should that be?
Or anyone having had the same experience and has a solution?

Thanks

Jurgen

Sounds like the cam-timing might be off.

I would check to see if the head gasket is missing. It sounds like a timing problem, for sure, but it sounds like it has too much compression.

Thanks All,

I think a missing head gasket may be the issue, since I had checked the timing already at the time and it seemed OK. Do you know how thick and what material the head gasket would be, if it is missing?

I see if I get to take it apart this weekend.

Soft copper about .008" would be ideal.

Did you look to see if the head gasket was actually missing?

Enjoy,

Jim

A good way to anneal a copper head gasket for re-use is to heat it with a propane torch and then quinch it in water. This will soften it enough to use again.

W8ye,

No, I had given up after fiddling with the engine unsuccessfully and actually had planned to return it to TT since I had just gotten it back. Somehow I just put it in a box and forgot about it until now. My suspicion was that maybe the compression is too high but I did not know that there is usually a head-gasket mounted.

Thanks again

Does anyone know where to get a needle valve for the TT 40 Engine? I bought one off E-Bay and the needle valve is missing.

None of you guys have both?, The PRO61 and the GP61

This reply might be a little late in coming. I own both. The PRO 61 is about average, very reliable and well finished. I run it almost exclusively with a tuned pipe (MAS 12x8), and this really wakes it up !!!

The GP61 runs absolutely great. I don't understand this generalized apprehension concerning plain-bearing engines on the part of many people. I believe the power of an engine comes basically from the way it's ported. At high speeds, the oil (castor for me always) forms a protective film that greatly eliminates friction on the crankshaft vs the crankcase. Anyway, I love the GP's silky smooth, clean and responsive transition, thanks no less to its great -and humble- air bleed carb.

Regards,
Misterpanda

I think the GP61 is actually a 65 for whatever that is worth?

Thunder tiger engines remind me of when I go on vacation with my family looking for a good bowl of clam chowder. Never to be found at the convenent main drag street, snagging all the rich and rushed. I go in the back streets with low overhead and no advertisement to the guys surviving on word of mouth only. You will find the veterans and the town people who know where to go for the best food. There at the bottom of the bowl you will find the thunder tiger 120 and a simple foremost valve for pump pressure running on 10%. To me from what I have seen the "120 IS BETTER THEN THE 46"!!!!!!!!!!! And that is real darn good. It is just so much darn fun doing a slow speed pass and having a 120 running like a clock out of the box. KELLDOG P.S go visit the engines in back of main street.

You can order Thunder Tiger engine parts from any hobby dealer that resells Ace Hobby/Thunder Tiger products. You can also order them from the following online resellers:

http://www.infinitehobbies.com

http://www.thundertiger4u.com

http://www.ehobbies.com

Hopefully a few folks will post links to other Thunder Tiger dealers as well.
