I just got into rc airplanes and don't know very much about it, I am almost finished with a pt 40. I'm building. My question is about the nicad battery for the receiver. The instruction manual for my radio says not to overcharge them but makes no mention as to how long they should be charged. The charger supplied with the radio is an ac outlet charger. Also how long can one expect to fly on one receiver and transmitter battery?

The charger that came with the radio is probably rated to slow charge your batteries. This usually means (for a totally discharged battery) about 14 hours.

If you look on the back of your charger, let us know what it says for output (both TX and RX) and then tell us the size of your batteries (volts and mah rating).

As far as flights per charge, it depends on battery size, number of servos, load etc. You will probably get more flights out of your radio (TX) than your plane (RX battery).

As an example, I can get about 5 flights on my 40 size aerobatic plane before I need to charge the RX battery. My radio's battery would still have plenty left.

You might also want to check out www.rcbatteryclinic.com. It has LOTS of great battery info. It was created by a moderator here.
