Hello Kevin,

Did you cut the engine box to fit your G26 inside the cowling? I just want to check with you before doing a mistake. I should move back the engine box by 3 inches to fit my MVVs1.6 in the cowl.
Does it make sens?

Daniel,

Can't remember how much I cut off. My engine box now measures about 2 inches from firewall to the first fuse former.

Ok,
For those who wants to give a diet to their 24% extra and don't care about the cash, here is what i did:

1)CF wing tube: PBG103T, PBG CARBON FIBER TUBE 7/8"x30" .035" WALL
55g for 30''. I keep the supplied black socket cause its lighter than http://www.precisionaerocomposite.com/ . It fits perfectly together.
weigh saving=89g. l
2) Graptech landing gear:It is 6-1/2" wide at the fuse, 6-3/4" Axle height, 16-5/8" spread, cut 1-1/2" to 1".
weight:165g, weight saving=40g. The main advantage here is the CF gear if higher than CA. My MVVS1.6 will get more space to turn a 18x6 prop.
I will put Duralite lithium pack (1400 ignition and 2000mamh for servos) to save another 60g
As proposed by Tipover, i will use the Kavan wheels

Tipover, your first position as lighter 24% CA Extra300L with a small gasser at 11lbs is in danger now!!

I am trying to find a way to attach the hatch to the fuse. PLease let me know if one of you have a suggestion??
That instruction manuel is a real crap!

Mine only weighs 8 lbs now G26 started acting up, so it went by by. I cut the foam off at the instrument panel, and added a 1/4" balsa floor. The fastening method is self explanatory....got some help from Bob The Builder

Hi Kevin

1) How many down thrust did you give to the engine?
2) As you know, the engine box has already a right thrust angle. Did you keep it like proposed by the instructions or modify it?
Presently, i have 0 degre down thrust and about 3 or 4 degres right thrust.

For future 24% Extra builders, here is a suggestion to help balancing the CG with a pull pull setup on the elevator to reduce tail heavy issue.

Daniel,

I left the right thrust alone as per design. Ended up with a small amount of up thrust. About a 1/32" washer on the bottom of engine mount. I would'nt recommend adding any up, or down thrust to the firewall. Shim the engine as needed after test flying. Up-down thrust becomes much more sensitive with a farther back cg. Everything trim wise becomes more critical the farther the cg is back. A tiny bit of up thrust allows you to carry more down elevator trim, which will counter any ballooning effect with power cut back.

As you can see, the CF wing tube fits perfectly in the CA tube socket and it is very light.

Daniel,

How much weight did you save going with the carbon gear?? sure you mentioned it, but I forget.

Looks like your going to side mount your engine??

Please keep the pictures coming as you fininsh up your plane.

I might try my Moki 1.35 in mine next spring. I know it would be a vertical rocket at 10.5 lbs, just not sure if I can fly it that tail heavy. Should be good for one flight!!!

In fact, the lithium cost is too expensive and i will go with NiMH pack. A lot more cheaper than lithium but lighter than Nicad.

Bodyman,
On previous posts, your pic 5 and 6 seem to show a wing black nut 1/4 at the wing root? Do you have more pics or details on your set up please with part number? With my CF wing tube i can not thread it and i plan to install a wing nut between the fuse and wing root. Did you use a nylon nut or metal nut?
Thanks

Daniel
