This is it!, I am not going to re-bend the wing strut again or re- drill mounting holes. Now I know why I have seen guys use a level on the wing bottom surfaces when setting up.. The DR-1 has only one outer wing strut rather than the typical N type stuts on most bi-planes, this allows the wing to flex and makes it harder to get the wing aligment set. The top wing normaly calls for about 1-1/2 degree positive incidence, the right wing has about 3/4 degree less incidence than the left wing, anyway I am not going to worry about it, it can be taken care of with the airlon trim.
The rear stab well have two screws toward the front and one in the back to hold it to the fuse. If your wondering, the red paint is sprayed for the areas I well not be able to get with a brush latter.

The cowl takes a little bit of work.. I started with a 1/3 size D-8 fiberglass cowl from Fiberglass Specialties.. Since this is a custom sized DR-I about 31-32%, specificaly built for  a engine in the 62CC range, it is built a hair smaller than 1/3 size and needs a cowl about 13" in diameter.. Since the 1/3 size cowl is about 1" to large in diameter I took the cowl and cut it in half on my table saw,  the cut line was feather sanded, (you can see the seam on the inside) thick CA glue was applied to the two sections and glued together, sanded back down to a round shape and filled with auto putty...I included a photo of the fiberglass cowl to show the finished results of my D-8.
You can see a quick first flight video of the D-8 at url below...  FOR SALE .. (( For any one interested in buying a nice completed 1/3 D-8 this airplane is for sale $2,600 or best)) The landing gear wing has been installed since this picture was taken.

The stab is held with two 6-32 screws going into a t-nut in the front and one screw in the back...  I used 3/8"x1/4" hardwood with the edges rounded for stab struts... The elevator horns are Du-Bro 105,, the 4-40 pushrods are Great Planes GPMQ3718 secured across the fuse to prevent flexing..

For the rudder I start by making the rudder post by laminating 1/8" thick ply with two 1/8" thick balsa, you can see the slot I have in the ply for a 5/32" wire rod to fit into. The rudder sleeve is cut from 5/32" or 3/16" brass tube, and the attachment bracket is made from 1/2" wide brass and soldered on. The top bracket is attached and the bottom bracket still needs to be made. Wheel collars well be set latter on the rod to keep the rudder in place.. I am using balsa slightly wider than the plan for added strength.. The rudder ribs has a cap glued on to give it a slight airfoil shape.

I am making the landing gear out of 1/4" steel rod for the front strut and using 7/32'  rod for the rear strut...  I used a hack saw to cut out two brackets for the axle to fit through with a slot which I well drill and file out... The brackets and bungee stubs are tack welded  than brazed on to the strut with a oxcy torch.
I well be using a 1/4" rod as a axle which well go through the brakets on each side of the strut, the brackest are bent in on a 90 degree angle which the landing gear wing well attach to, the bungee or rubber band well wrap around the two small stubs and the axle.

I am using Solartex fabric from Balsa USA to cover the D-1, once the fuselage is covered and masked, I use Valspar premium interior latex flat paint custom colored to paint the first coat of the streaked finish scheme I have chosen. The red area is covered with Solartex pre-colored fabric, I plan on leaving as is.

The fuselage got a second coat of flat latex paint, after that any type of clear coat over it well help from obsorbing and getting stains which well no come out and make it easier to apply the streak effect without smugging..

Thanks for the inquiry on the DR-1.. I have seriously gotten behind on things such as painting on my house and rental properties this summer and had to put a halt to my airplane construction...  I am now able to find a little time to check out my building area to clean up and determine where to pick up on my builds,,  I have a BF-110 twin and of course my favored Dr-1 which I need to complete first for this comming build season, and begin posting again soon  in the next few days or weeks,..

I picked up a twin Zenoah a few weeks back  on a repair trade deal, looks like a good power plant for the DR-1.

Charlie. It was a pretty easy job for me cutting down the diamiter of the fiberglass cowl..  I have a table saw so I marked the center line on the cowl and ran it across the saw, ( probablie use a long hack saw if you don't have a table saw) now I ended up with two halves,,,  from there I placed it on the airplane fuselage to try the fit and figured I needed to take about 3/4 inch  off the diamiter or whatever...
I took the edges where it had been cut on both pieces and feathered it, I used rough grit sand paper wrapped around a piece of 1x3x6" wood and started to sand a bevel about 1" from the edge so when I got to the edge it was almost paper thin. Took some 5 minute epoxy with some shredded milled fiberglass mixed in, worked fast and spread it on both feather sanded areas and stuck them together and used some clamps to hold it together, work out how you are going to clamp it first before you spread the epoxie. I ended up with some small high spots on the outside that I sanded down than used a little layer of car paste on the outside, the red stuff in a tube, after I sand it smooth I well paint it. I did not have to use any fiberglass cloth.
( you can see that the center line edge is off center because the other side well be off center as well because of the overlap of about 3/4-1" of the fiberglass edges).

I had my 1/3 Neuport flying in the Flying Pilgrims anual Giant Scale Fall closeout show in South east Michigan...  We had lot of Giant 3D, warbirds and jets, but as usual this is got to be one of the favorite flights for the spectators to see this giant biplane get into the air..  ( I know I cheated and added a tail wheel for ease of ground handleing)..
This Dr-1 should be a Big hit with the crowd for the next year show !..

I took and mounted the bottom wing to the fuselage, than placed the center wings on, set the strut through the bottom and mid wing, this all fits good,,, but the top wing is another matter trying to get to align without a struggle,,, I hope the mis aligment can be washed out with the trim at flight without  being a issue...
I am going to cover the mid wing now with  white Solartex shrink fabric.

Here is a preveiw of what the finished plane should start looking like... I know I cheated on this one to by installing a stearable tail wheel, it makes flying so much easyer and error proof when there is a crowd looking.

I see some guys who can give just enough throttle without digging into the grass and give rudder at the same time for the prop wash to turn the airplane, me I just don't want to take that chance, I like to fly made simple as possible.
