I have the sig 1/4 scale cub and was wondering if the Syssa 30cc would fit inside the cowl, and be a good choice.

Hey Mike, the black and yellow CW Cub is very striking! What engine? I must've missed it in any previous post. The pedal Cub plans and stuff can be purchased from Aviation Products, Inc. Marv is a super guy with whom to deal. I worked on this toy every day for better than a month. It doesn't have a gas cap and some finish painting needs to be done but I ain't gonna do it. The little tyke won't know! Like any airplane I changed a few things like painting the prop silver, not using the stick on decals and painting the 'cheater' stripe and 'N'#'s and putting real seat and seat back cushions in it!

Guys’ the date is set……. Saturday May 5th……..Cub’s and Classics over Bluegrass. The event is open to all classic time aircraft up to the 1950’s. This is at the Lexington Model Airplane Club’s field in Lexington KY. All of the Cub brotherhood are invited to come and fly.

If you know of a Cub event, please post it so we all will know.

Also Sep 13, 14, and 15 is our big fall classic fly-in. in the past few years we have had a large turnout of cub’s so pop that event into your list also.

Happy New Year to all my fellow Cub lovers and some advice please. I am building my second Cub, a Sig 1/5 scale Anniversary Cub (first one was a Goldberg Anniversary Cub, built more years ago than I care to remember). The Sig will have my first ever 4-cycle, a Saito FA-62. On my 2-cycle engines I've used Tru-Turn (great folks) spinners. A spinner on the Cub just wouldn't seem right, but I've envisioned some sort of prop hub or prop nut on the Saito (needs to go on after the standard prop nut, correct?) and it just seems to look a bit out of place, no? How do you deal with the need for a prop nut, a jam nut (or substitute) and still make it look like a Cub?

Homer,

Here's what I did on my HH 1/5 Scale Cub. I got a 1" Tru-Turn Prop Hub. In the photo, it's mounted to a 14x6 prop. They're available either factory direct or from TH.

http://www.truturn.com/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi?p_id=tth1000a&ppinc=prophubs&exact_match=on

The hub is hollow, it's not a prop nut. You can put your regular prop washer and jam nut underneath the Prop Hub, for safety.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Bob

Hi Homer,

I think those prop hubs are under-utilized. My 'incentive' came when I was starting my cub and it only had a Dubro Prop Nut:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXE161&P=7

Those prop nuts look great, just what I was looking for, but as I almost found out the hard way, are not for 4S engines. That was bad headwork on my part. The prop came off and narrowly missed me and two friends. About one microsecond later, I remembered the TruTurn Prop Hub.

I still used those prop nuts on my 2C engines though. They work beautifully, but not on a 4S engine.

Glad to have helped,

Bob

Subscribed! I am about to start my first Kit, the Sig 1/4 cub!
Really cool thread! I am new to this hobby this summer and Kit building seems soo much more fun than rather mounting together an ARF.
I truly belive that the effort and love u put in a Kit or scratch, must make your hands shake some extra on maiden..

#2 40 four stroke or less power only (I want you to fly the wing not engine plus I like wet power and its my 'Cookup' ).
#3 fabric covering to be painted correct colors. Precolored fabric okay (no plastic film).
#4 unique 'N' numbers representing a fullscale Cub verified with photo. No member will have same 'N' numbers as another.
#5 any modifications to enhance scale fidelity okay but the model must be a J-3 or its military equivalent.
#6 must fly before September 2, 2012. Verify with photo, video or CD of an event or any fly in entered and posted on this thread if okay by Cub Man.
#7 must post build pics here on RCU (on this thread if okay by Cub Man) and can post them on other websites.

That's it! Good luck and have fun!

Snowball- that Cub is really neat! If I was super rich I'd buy everybody a Cub kit, engine and the works. The cookup is more of a 'stimulus package'! The goal is to stimulate kit building, Cub acquisition, enhance flying skills and generally take over the world by Cub folks! Wooo- ah- ha- ha- ha- haaaaaa! P.S.- unless someone comes up with a better offer....

I appreciate your idea. There are too many arfs out there today. Its seems the hobby has lost a lot of tradition.I love to build .Those that think they dont have the skills to do it are wrong.Anyone can do it with the help of people like us who enjoy helping others!
