The Sig 1/4 size Cubs are what we call stand off scale. There are tons of things which separate them from true scale, both clipped wing and full span versions.

In any case, I've had the clipped wing version for many, many years and also flown full size span versions. IMO, they should all be clipped. You can get lots more performance from it clipped wings when you want while still having a floater if you wish.

The wing needs to be extended at the root. The clipped wing version builds as a one piece wing and the full span builds as a 2 piece wing. A full length 1 piece wing would be a bear. I was contantly hitting my clipped wing on everything in the shop and while transposrting. I would build the clipped wing and let it go at that. They fly great.

Status: offline 		I think just being built as one and two piece. Of course the cabin top is different for the 2 types. It would be much easier to make a full span a clipped wing versus a clipped wing a full span.

Here's one.  Let's say you build a full span Cub, fly it for a year or so, then decide to clip the wings.  Not having that much experience (but learning quickly) how much would be involved?

And, by the way, if I were to do this again, I think even with a clipped wing, I'd want to make the center section part of the fuse with a wing tube for attachment.  It just seems more practical and probably a lot easier to transport.

Status: offline 		On the full scale Clipped Wing Cub they basically shortened the wings 1-1/2 bays at the root of the wing panels. You could do the same with the model by stripping the covering and moving the root rib in by the proper distance. This of course would require surgery to all the sheeting as well. I would just order a wing kit for the full wing and build 2 clipped wing panels and you could have 2 sets of wings ready to fly and you can choose which set for the day of flying. You would also have to build a new set of struts for the clipped wing.

Status: offline 		I had actually considered buying the wing kit.  And having a spare wing probably wouldn't hurt either.  I think I could probably build and finish a wing in under two years.

Saito 90-TS twin purring away in the nose of my Sig 1/5-scale... loops & hammerheads, touch-n-goes, slips & crabs, lazy spins. A perfect day!

Status: offline 		I am using a Gemini 160 in my 1/4 scale BUSA Cub and planning on getting an ASP 160 for my new Hanger 9 1/4 scale P18 ... The Gemini 160 is lots of power for a 1/4 cub if its not over weight

Status: offline 		Just finished rib stitches and tapes. Wing tanks (ply), cap handles and filler neck ring (lithoplate) epoxied in place. The PA-12 gets red paint after placing masks.

Status: offline 		OK guys , I want to find a 1/4 scale cub ARF... and the only one I am seeing for about $379 is
the world model ones.. I do have a 20 size from them seems to be OK . I just wanted to check
with you folks first about this. and to see if there was any other options. I am liking the red star-burst one's.
I have also noticed that tower doesn't sell the kits anymore.

Status: offline 		Hanger 9 1/4 scale ARF J-3 Piper Cub is a good one. I have had all 3 versions they have made and the latest one is nice. It has scale seats, panel, opening door/window, scale landing gear, etc. I made the throttles, control sticks, etc. It is powered with a DLE 20 and weights 16#S. Flies awesome!!!!

Status: offline 		Eh, just trying to join the rest of the building crowd.  I've had five ARF's total and two builds.  The Cub is my first and last so far (I'm slow with this one) and it's my first BIG build.  I'm LOVING it!

I'll be interested to here what the HK looks like and how it compares to the H9!  Keep us informed!
