yep but I knew of them. May try to pop them in cad and see if I can get what I need. The gear is made for the balsa USA 1/3 scale Cub. Sad part is it is a little wider then scale. So I need to see if I can make them fit.

Ill have to go back to the drawing board and see. I think it was around 3/8. The center section can probably be shortend and it still work.

I SO wanna do that! Just can't decide which seat I wanna be flying in...

A bit of News from the San Antonio Annex to Hell... I just made a deal which pleases my wife no end; I thinned out my herd to the tune of 1 complete Heli (My LeadersHobby/Hausler450) and a spare complete Aeolian frame for same. In return, I got a fellow flying club member who's higher than a kite with his new REAL Heli, and a complete kit of RF 6.0 + 6.5 Upgrade W/Futaba Elite Controller (That's a good thing, right?) to call my very own.

It really is a good deal for both of us; he's been between jobs for a while and has had to sell off much of his stable, and as such "has flown the wheels off his Real Flight". Meanwhile, as you may know, I'm software-buying-money poor, but have accumulated a fair-sized collection over the last couple years of "trying to find the perfect match" so am relatively helicopter-rich. This should help me develop some much-needed "fundamental flying skillz", and I may actually be semi-competent once I finish my .050 size Cub.

I'm trying to decide whether I need to take the Hausler 450 out of my sig; while I DID give up the FS-CT6B radio, I STILL have 2 1/2 complete spare chassis, one of which I've had half-built for months now. I guess it's time to do an inventory anyways; this'll be an excuse to "litter up half the living room widdall muh junk". My wife will NOT be so pleased about THAT.

It's OK; she gets along fairly well with my addiction. And SHE bought me the Cub, so I know she's a keeper.

I've gotten my GreatPlanes GPMQ1855 gear on it; I found that if I overlapped the halves so the inner set of screws line up, it fits my chassis PERFECTLY. I bent mine in a 5" vise to make the overlap flush; the centerline of the wheels (ie, the coathanger temporary axle) is 13" wide and 4" from the belly vs 12" wide & 3 1/4" with the stock gear, so not quite scale... but then, without the springers, really not scale anyhoo.

I'm planning to put 4" or 4 1/2" balloonies or tundra tires on it instead of the 3"ers you can see on it since my club meets at a local soccer field with short-clipped grass; if I don't like the look of it with the bigger dognuts on there, I may cut the wheel mounting flanges off and bend new ones right at the bottom line of the original gear dress-up panels which you can see I''ve already bonded on them with silicone RTV sealant.

Hey cub man, I would like to join the brotherhood. I just recieved my SIG 1/4 scale cbu today, and will be starting the build very soon. I also have been flying a 1/5 scale  i think it is.) Sig clipped wing cub for about 8 or 9 years now. It still flies great. If I can join, that would be great. Thanks, Steve.

Hi Steve,
I am also going to buy a 1/4 scale cub kit. I have looked at both the Sig and Balsa USA Kits, but have not made up my mine which one to get. If I may ask why did you go with the Sig kit?
Charlie

i mainly went with SIG because i have built alot of SIG kits. Two astro hogs, a hog bipe, a smith mini plane, a 1/5 cub, and a 4* 120. I have had nothing but good experiences with SIG. They are a top notch company who stands behind their work 100 %. Thats not to say that the other co. doesnt, I have just never dealt with them. I guess im just a creature of habit and really enjoy SIGs kits. Good luck with which ever you choose. Steve.

I built the Sig ¼ scale cub and the only thing I did not like is how the wing attaches to the fuselage. If I built another one I would build the center section into the fuse and make the wing panels attach to it.

I built, and highly modified, the Sig 1/4 Cub.  I chose the Sig because it seemed to be the "Benchmark" of a 1/4 Cub.  It has been around forever and a bunch are still flying decades after they were built.  One of the Sig Cubs at my field is 26 years old.  The yellow one below is my Friends Sig Cub, scaled out, and 26 years of age.

The major modification was the plug in wings, adding flaps, and the addition of the door.  The tail was reshaped and the fuse widened at the front making the model more like a super Cub.

The Sig was a great build, if not epic!

That being said, I am building a 1/4 Balsa USA Nieuport 28.  The construction of which is equal to that of the Sig models, as is the quality of the wood.  The plans of the Nieuport do have a few errors, which seems to be the case with most Balsa USA kits, but I doubt you could go wrong with either company.

Throw the Sig and Balsa USA cubs in a bag, shake it good and you would have a good cub. I like the center section to stay attached to the plane, but not a fan of the way the balsa USA wings plug in. I like to be able to slid the wing on and be able to use both hands to attache the wing. Both are great planes and both are off scale.
