I'm not quite sure what to use yet!! I've looked at the Slimline pitts and it may not fit behind the engine??? I've also looked at the Bisson inverted muffler,(banjo style), and it may be the one I try first. Any help in that area would be great!

Yep, its a BME 90. A converted Super Tigre from BME engines. Its going in my Sig 1/5 scale Clipped Wing Cub. I've had the Cub for many years now but did'nt fly it much. I had a Saito 130 TDP in it, but it was way too heavy for the Cub. I was able to remove a bunch of tailweight.

OMG... kind of off the subject, but it pertains to my cub. i just started recovering my cub today, using koverall and stix-it. this stuff is awesome!!! i'm not ever going back to monkeykote!!! i got the tail feathers and the horizontal stab and door completed. when i was removing the monkeykote from the cabin back to the tail, i broke the top-side stringers or they got broke from the crash, so i have to replace those before i can cover the fuse and vertical stab. i'm going to try covering with a single piece, so as to look actual "scale". just thought i should throw this out there for anyone who has never used fabric. i was leary at first, but like i said, it's a little more of a process, but, i have no wrinkles, creases, NOTHING!!! if you're skeptical, go for it. a cub in monkey- or ultrakote just ain't right. i appologize for my previous monkey-koted cub and promise to never do it again.    setting up for rib stitching shinanigans next. it's going to be insignia blue, marine markings. DO THE FABRIC!!!

Hey crash,
Insignia blue, what scheme you doing? This is mine, just finished its base coat. The other pic is the scheme I'm doing. Its coverd in koverall and painted with warbirdcolors paints. Wonderful paint to use. I'm waiting on the rest of my decals from Cajun RC. I made a size mistake on some of the text and had to reorder a couple. I tried painting insignias on my ziroli stearman last year that turned into a disaster. All the prep work to keep it from bleeding under my templates didnt work. I had to go over it again with a touch up paint brush. So its vinyl decals this time with clear coat.

this is the scheme i'm going for. your paint,...did you brush or spray it on? i'm thinking of using their paint line, but i haven't received an e-mail back from them about my order. so if i don't hear anything from them by the time i get around to painting, i'm going to home depot and color matching a quart, getting some flotrole(sp???), and going to town on it with that. one of the two. not sure on which of the markings yet.

I saw that earlier, cool lookin. I sprayed it on. Auto touchup HVLP (harbor freight cheapie with the 5oz cup) for the big areas and a pasche single action for the smaller areas, dark color. I'm using glow, saito 1.20 4-stroke. I liked using WBC paints cause it was really easy (kind of a relative term when spraying paint, lots of inbetween cleanup involved). WarbirdColors has been having trouble with his web site for awhile now. He was pretty good about getting back to me in a day or two, had to order over the phone. A buddy uses latex alot and gets really good results. Most of his planes are hard surfaced glass jobs.
Edwin

I just looked at WBC's website. He's having supplier troubles. I hope thats not a sign of things to come. An alternative is Nelson Hobby paints. Its a similar product. I used it first and had equally good results. http://nelsonhobby.com/ Same application technique, cleanup, and cross linker mix. I think Nelsons was sold about a year ago. Web site is still up and active. I tried nelsons because they said they could color match ultracoat. Maybe at a distance, but not up close. I dont see that statement anymore.

You are quite corret. There is absolutely nothing that matches or even comes close to a proper doped, fabric finish. Not only do you not have wrinkles now, you never will either.

If you take one piece of covering to do half the fuselage top and the same side of the vertical fin in one go and another piece to do the other side the same way, you will have the correct scale appearance to the covering for the fillet at the fin. If you need pix and a detailed explanation, you can get those from the Sig manual for their 1/4 size Cubs, which are available for download at the Sig website. It's much easier to do than finding manuals at Sig's site.
