Anthony that looks fantastic! Would this be an appropriate or scale covering material/method for the Cub?

Also, how much more does this covering method weigh over standard coverings?

Before laying down the rib tapes from Pink-It.net you might consider some rib stitches from Ken Kasmenko in BC, Canada. Here's a pic of my PA-12 wing with stitches but before rib tapes. Cheers!

This would be a scale application for the Cub. The Cub is all fabric covered and has reinforcement tapes over all the structure on the fuse and rib tapes over the rib stitching. I also use the rib stitching from Ken Kasmenko. He used to market it under the name Scale Rib Stitch. Not sure if he is still in business. I had enough tapes left over from my 33% Waco to do my 33% Cub. I lost most of the pictures of the building process of my 33% Cub due to a hard drive failure on my PC. I had my Waco backed up on CD and not the Cub .

Status: offline 		They come in 2" wide strips 11" long. They must be cut to the width that you will be using on the Cub. I believe the 1/4 Cub kits have 1/4" rib caps? can't quite remember. The Full scale Cub had 1/4" Rib caps so the models are way over built IMO. Anyhow just measure the rib from L/E Sheeting to the T/E and and the number of ribs and order enough to stitch the tail surfaces in the same manner. It doesn't take that much to do the stitching(maybe $20).

Status: offline 		The board is made of a piece of 1x8. I drilled holes 1/2' in from the edges and 1/4' apart.the green in the center is an old cutting mat cut to fit. In the photo's below first is the stitches in place. I used thread for visibility. The second is with the medical tape applied and marked for 1/4' strips. The third is with a strip cut. The board is also marked on both outside edges for measuring as needed. These stitches are placed at 1/2". And the two black lines runing parallel with the board are for aligning the tape. I can make stitches any width up to 6" and any lenght up to 3'.  If you use thread a regular knife will do. But for fishing line the curved blades work best. IMHO

Status: offline 		I have been using products from both "Pink -It" and "Scale Rib Stitch" , These are time saving products. I have used many different methods of stitch and tape and have found that to me it is worth the money to use these products for the ease and uniformity that they provide me.

Status: offline 		A DLE 20 is perfect for your 1/4 scale J-3 Cub. That is what I'm using in mine. I just built a 72" 14 1/2# Waco and installed a DLE 20 in it. The 20 flies it awesome with plenty of power and speed. I only use about 1/2 throttle or less on it.
Now, if you are wanting to hover the Cub or Waco, then it needs a larger engine for sure.

Status: offline 		Going to buy a cub arf, know time to build. Looks like airborne models has theirs at a good price. Would love to have the Aero works, but for that price I could buy two. Going to go with the DLE 30 even though the DL20 would power it pretty good.

Is there room for one more Cub fan? When I was a kid I used to ride my bike to a small local airfield. The staff there was nice enough to let me hang around and I fell in love with the Cubs. The first one I built was a 36” rubber powered Piper Super Cruiser kit from Sterling when I was about 14. My first RC Cub was the 1/6th Sig where I learned the hard way that those wing struts ARE functional. I currently have 2 1/6th Sigs, 2 Pilot PA- 18s a ¼ scale Pilot Cub and a little Guillows kit. Has anyone out there built the ¼ scale Pilot Cub? I was curious if the OS FT-1.20 that is shown in the plans was enough engine for it. Thanks for the great thread!
