I would even go one step further. Pilot in the cockpit too small for the model. You can't put a 1/6 scale BBI pilot in a 1/4 scale plane. It just looks bad. Look at any war time photo and you will see how small the cockpits really are. If you have spent that much time and money on the plane get the right size pilot. They are out there.

Status: offline 		ALL OF THE ABOVE AND FLAT STABS. Also why can't they make more arf's without any covering? it would make bashing or refinishing easier.

Status: offline 		Strict scale expectations on warbird ARFs, and warbirds in this Warbird forum. This is not the scale forum and warbird events are not scale events.

The comment "Is that an ARF? Where did you get it?" That is my biggest peeve. Especially after building the aircraft for 2 years from scratch, or kit.

If you are competing a scale model that you built up from a kit or plans, and it's being judged against a CompARF or something similar, where all of the surface details are molded in the fiberglass skin, then that's a fair question. With those models, the details did "come out of the box. I think the two should be judged in separately classes in competation.

Status: offline 		My plane has fixed gear in the wrong place, no pilot, and flat tail surfaces.  Plus, I have been trying to hover it.     I did put the cowling on it once the engine had been broken in.  My only pet peave is that I had to explain several times that it is not an arf.

Status: offline 		Tiny (non-scale) or cheap plastic wheels! I usually hear "No one cares when it's in the air". Well, unfortunately on the ground is when folks really get to check out a plane and those wheels end up ruining what might be a gorgeous plane otherwise.

Status: offline 		I know attaching canopies with canopy glue can be a chore, I would love for some to share their method, however, my Pet Peeve is guys who attach Canopies or the Landing Gear Wheel wells to their planes with #2 or #4 screws, and the screw heads are clearly visible, if you insist on using them, paint the heads to match the color of the plane where you are attaching them to hide them.

Status: offline 		My pet peeve by far is watching newbie’s attempting to get into scale only to be discouraged by some who seem to take pride in pointing out things lacking in others efforts. I’m not saying that applies to anyone here I am saying this in general. I have seen this happen many times at the field and in competitions.

Here is a prime example that happened at a low key scale competition that I attended as a judge. There were modelers of all abilities. One young fellow I had encouraged to give scale competition a try had just finished a kit Mustang, Fit and finish were very good for his first attempt he purchased the kit and built it over the winter with the intent of entering his first competition. His retracts were commercial (not very scale), rivets were a little big and not the right style, control linkage and horns as per the kit instructions and not to scale. Most of all his documentation was very inadequate. He entered in an advanced class not knowing what was required. Several advanced modelers who were checking out the competition made some very unflattering remarks about his model and his chances in the competition. He looked at the other planes that he would be up against and decided scale might not be for him. He decided to pack up and go home. A very advanced scale competitor wandered by and asked about his plane. When he heard what had happened and the young man was giving up and leaving he brought him over and introduced him to me. I was Scale Chairman for MAAC at the time. We sat down with the young modeler and convinced him to try Stand Off Scale. There he met 2 others about his age and if I remember correctly he finished in the top half of the group. No he didn’t win or even place but he came back and told us he had a great time.

Be careful about criticism even constructive can take the wind out of someone’s sails if it is taken the wrong way.

Remember we all started out as newbie’s and if it weren’t for the helpful suggestions of those advanced scale modelers the learning curve might have discouraged many of us.

Scale airplanes that DON'T FLY SCALE!!! A nice scale take-off is beautiful, but I see so many people horsing planes off the ground, rolling too fast, etc. I'm not a scale builder by any means........just sayin'

Status: offline 		I would say three things, 1- Exposed control linkages, If you are building up a plane its not much harder to hide all the linkages and rods.

2-Exposed switches and charge jacks, again if building it is pretty easy to make an access panel to hide them.

3- Don't know why but I really hate a fixed canopy when it should be sliding.

Status: offline 		Experts that tell newbies to under size their power plant because you want it to fly scale speed. Then are nowhere to be found when it departure stalls and goes in.

Status: offline 		My pet peeve is RCer's who think everyone has thousands of dollars to spend and should do everything their way.  Come on people, this is supposed to be a few friends gettting together to have a good time.  Some have the money to spend on a 9 foot long ject with everything and some can only buy a foamie.  But both should be able to enjoy each others' planes without ****ing about them.
