What to tell you guys, I am blessed with my wife...

Yes, you are.

My shop is in the basement of my home, and I, well.............do catch some flak. However, my wife is a registered nurse and has always worked the night shift. This works out well, for building, at least. We did manage to have 8 kids as well

Very exciting time in a build IMO. You are doing a wonderful job, as you have done on every phase of this build.

The one piece wing with the belly pan permanently part of the wing makes for a very simple and strong wing, if transport and storage is no issue.

I saw scenes like your wintery back yard, around here last year, but not this year, thankfully. Shirtsleeves in January!!! We have hardly had any Winter.......(yet).

In last few days I was working on the wing bottom side. Same procedure...

Because it's here still bad weather, and car is in garage, I made model in dinning room. I was working on cowl flaps...

Next step is to instal two servos which will open and close this flaps...

Can't wait to snow melt and return in my garage...

Few days ago, after two weeks, I drove the car out from the garage. Snow start to melt, temperature is above 0 degree, so I return back to work on my P 47.

First I finished work on switch cover. After few ideas I made it on most simply way with two hinges and mechanism for closing with the spring. Aluminum plate was curved like fuselage, so everything is easy, simply, safe and fit well...

Because I want to make scale exhaust system, I was thinking how it will be best and most easy to made.

I was looking in Thunderbolt books...

...and got idea to try to made same system like was on real plane...

I must thinking about few things, there must be enough space for fixing split exhaust end, exhaust must have good cooling, and finally, with two ply plates I made connection between first and second fuselage ribs more rigid.

All in all, first I marked where I need to cut fuselage. I saw that upper top of holes will be in same level with ply in which come front wing joiner...

After sanding, I have holes ready for gluing ply plate...

Same procedure on top side (top side is here on picture, it's bottom side on fuselage)...

Than I draw and cut three holes. Middle hole will be for exhaust pipe, and left & right holes are for cooling.

Through this holes hot air will go out. Hot air are not just from exhaust, but from engine also...

In front part of side holes I made fins from aluminum plate. It's same dimension like Meister Scale give on plans. Front fin is bigger, and rear is smaller, like on real plane...

After second fin, hole will be cover with aluminum plate which will have hole in the middle. Through that hole will come out end of exhaust pipe. Those plate will be removable...

Thanks Misha and Gary...

Last night I made little modifications, so this is it. I want to try to get as much as possible big area for installation exhaust system. Because that I made rear fin and aluminum plate in one piece, which can be removed with 4 screws...

In the middle of aluminum plate will be hole for exhaust pipe. Hole will be made when I get engine and find how big pipes need to be...
Regards

Mirce

In last few days I was working on cockpit...

Plastic parts I bought from Meister Scale site. For both sides I made reinforcements...

Pilot chair...

Than I made holes on instrument panel. I used felt tool on my Proxon...

On back side of the cockpit I glued thin balsa plate to cover hole on the rib. On upper part, I made pilot protection plate.
All in all, it look like this...

Yesterday I get package with few stuff, and one of them was pilot. I bought Premium pilot from Dino. It's nice, very detailed...

...and fit nice in cockpit...

On canopy is protective foil, so it little blurry...

Now I have all the parts that can make a model...

In last few days I was sanding some smaller parts, and on some I put primer. Final result is good...

I installed all the parts in switch box. With main switch, there are Robart parts for filling the air and pressure measurement, and small switch for lights.

Hope that today will add primer on all parts, and in next few days I will sand wing...

Best regards

Mirce

Thanks Dino...

I'm finally back in my work shop, and progress is obvious.

I don't want to dirt my work shop with wing sanding. Weather forecast for next few days is good, temperature will be higher, so I can do that in my yard...
Until that I will work on gear doors.

Regards

Mirce

Thanks Eddie and John...

As I told here is few photos of gear door covers.

In kit you get gear doors made from ply, but retract not fit complete in wing, so doors must little to distort...

First, I made inside cover. Original wooden cover I use like template, and made new cover from 0,5 mm thin aluminum plate. Aluminum plate is easy to twist, but it's rather weak, so I add wooden part inside.

Cover sits nicely on the wing...

Hinges was next...

After that I start working on gear door which will be on lower part of the retract.

To be continued...

Regards

Mirče

OK, I finished one side...

I made cover over retract mechanism, and on it I put hinges for door which cover retract leg...

Door which cover wheel is clamped on retract with two bolts...

As you can see leg door is going over wheel door, and on the overlap is small curvature not to bend to each other...

System is very simple, when retract start coming out wheel door push leg door...

Rubber is not most nicest detail, but it's practical and for now is good to see how system work. Rubber always pulling leg door to retract. Because that I must add one 1,2 mm thin ply inside leg door...

I am very pleased with how everything works. Its light, simple, look good and it's easy for maintenance, everything is on screws and nuts...

Now, I must gear doors copy - paste on other wing side, and finally must add pneumatic valves on inner gear doors. I will use Dino's system...

Regards

Mirce
