Thank you Scou for the info.

I just ran in a Enya 1.55R on 5% nitro and am getting 8200 rpm peaked on the APC 17X8 after one gallon. I may purchase a Menz to see how it performs in the air.

Will a 12oz tank give you 12 minutes of flight time or is fuel consumption a little higher?

I have 10 oz tank to keep my plane light. It gives me 9 minutes of flying time running between 75% to 100% power. I did 2 deadsticks when i tried 10 minutes of flying time.

I do not think my engine is break in yet, it'll take 3 or 4 more gallons to see a difference but, my engine seems better every gallon. Maybe i will get 8100 RPM stable, after more gallons?
I do not pay attention to the RPM peak. It mean nothing for me. Presentely, the red head peak 8000 RPM and goes down to 7900RPM stable. Based on your post, the MVVS1.6 with incowl muffler seems very near of 1.5 glow engine.

I would recommand 12 oz tank, if your wing area can take it. Don't forget the velocity stack, it's works very well.

The limited testing I have done so far shows that the 1.60 comes very close to a Saito 150 on 20% nitro.
The advantage of the gasser is that it seems to have less issues with large props. The Saito 150 is slightly over propped with an APC 17x8, the gasser likes this prop.

The black crap comes from using too much oil I think (break in mixture) combined with running the engine rich at very low rpm. If the needles are set correctly and you don't put around at idle all day long there should be very little black crap on your plane.
The only problem is cleaning that black crap off... alcohol doesn't work... I think you need white gas or something to clean it up...

The MVVS is making about the same power with about the same fuel economy as my Enya 155R FOUR STROKE but the Enya setup weighs over 1/2 pound less.

An O.S. 160FX makes 1000 rpm more on 5% nitro and still has good fuel economy. I run an APC 18X6 on my 160FX in a 1/4 scale 13# extra and get 10 minutes on about 12 oz. with lots of full throttle aerobatics.

Ummm, you might try a LiPoly battery for the ignition. That should save a few oz. Cubic money, though. ;^)

    Cheers,

Scoub, are you only getting 9 min on a 10 oz tank in the MVVS? I am using an 8 oz & I get 17 min. The reason I know is the first muffler I had on there fell off in flight & the engine wouldnt idle down enough to land without damage so I got a little altitude & flew like I normally do (only a little higher) & when the engine ran out I stoped my timer. It came up 17 min. 1 sec.

I do not if my engine is alcoholic, but 9 minutes with 10oz is right. I opened the tank this weekend and i saw the tygon tubing was loose on the brass tube? I installed tie raps at both ends of the yellow tygon tube inside the tanks to secure it.

I do not know if it'll reduce the gaz consumption?? I tough the velocity stack will reduce the consomption too
It was really windy last weekend. I flew with 20km/h wind and my engine was at full throttle most of the time.

    rsrogers,

What plane do you have your engine in and what prop are you using? What was the throttle setting that gave you 17 minutes?

The fuel consumption given by Scoubidou sounds right for a high powered flight on an aerobatic plane.

I have a friend that is flying a Moki 2.10 and he gets over 10 minutes on 12 oz., he has so much power he is never at full throttle flying his 80" WM Extra during aerobatics. That is a great engine at 50 oz. including theradial mount and Bisson pitts muffler. He is running a Mejzlik 20X8 prop at 7800-8000 rpm with Byron FAI fuel after one gallon.

At the time I actually saw how far it would go on a tank, it was in a Lanier Edge 120. I have since put it in one of the GSP Katana 140. My normal flights usually keep the throttle between 1/2 & full.
The largest gasser I have in use at the present is a 2.0 (33cc) in a 4-Star 120 & it has a 13 oz tank. I have flown 20 min on it & still had fuel left. Maybe its because I dont fly wide open all the time or something but I have always had much better luck on gas consumption than mentioned here!

    rsrogers,

I forgot, do you have the latest engine with two pick up? This engine has been re-ported and uses a bit more fuel.

I have a 10 oz tank, set the timer on 15 minutes and I always have more then a half tank when landing. I have the 2m Funtana, and Mejzlik 18X8 prop. I feel I have a fairly lean setting on the carb, but still get some black oil on the rear fuse. I also have a stack in the intake. You guys must really be flying full blast all the time to use so much gas!

Does anyone have an MVVS 1.6 engine that they'll be willing to part with for less than $200?

I finally got a chance to fire up my 1.60! I am running this engine with the tuned pipe on an Ultra Stick Lite. My flying partner has the exact same setup, his engine has about 1.5 hours on it. My engine fired up on the 5th flip after getting it primed, very impressive. Running Amsoil sythetic at 32:1, I let it run just below hatlf throttle for about 5 minutes then started giving it short bursts of more throttle. This engine runs very nice, it's going to be a good powerplant for the Stick.

While we were making noise, we thought we'd tach a few different props. We also hooked a fish scale to the tail of the airplane to give us some relative measurements of thrust. No this is not going to be accurate in absolute terms, but as all the tests were run back to back under identical conditions, the thrust measurements are a reasonable indicator of how the props performed in relation to each other.

    18x8 Dynathrust - 7950 rpm, 14.5 lbs pull
    18x8N APC - 8350 rpm 14.75 lbs pull
    18x8S Menz 8350 rpm 16.5 lbs pull
    18x6 Master Aiscrew - 9100 rpm 14.5 lbs pull
