If you start out with Opti-2 oil you wont have to worry about the black gooey messy nasty ugly crud on your airplane. I use it in everything that is 2 cycle and uses oil in the gas. It doesn't leave a residue at all.

I mixed up a gallon of high-test with some full-synthetic Motul 2-stroke oil, and the engine really rips! Running at 32:1 this concoction does leave a coating that castor can only hope to achieve! I think I'll lean out the bottom end substantially tomorrow and put one of those silicone exhaust extensions to direct the exhaust away from the fuse. For the maiden flights I was more concerned with getting familiar with the Ultra Stick - this is going to be one VERY fun airplane!

    David,
you know that MVVS prescribes Mobil 1 2t as the one and only oil don't you? They tested extensively with that oil and are satisfied with it, and even supply the oil for running in the 58cc engine, just to make sure customers use it.
The big end bearing is loaded right up to bearing design sheet limit to keep the engine small. It has some play to start with, but if play increases, a conrod replacement is due.

Did anyone get the description of the tacho data out from the new ignition type?
I asked Mr Vlach twice, but got no reply. Refer to my previous posts in this forum
to see how the new ignition looks like and the doc that comes with it.
Will tell you if more results,

I checked my oil selection with the factory, they are happy with it. Mobil is all but impossible to get in my neck of the woods. Like the Mobil 1 oil my selection is a "racing" oil designed for use in 2S motorbikes. I got another 8 flights on it today, I REALY like this engine/airplane combo, most fun I've had with my clothes on in a long time .

This engine does seem to expel a fair abpunt of fuel out of the carb when it is running however. I had a fair amount of slime to clean off my wing by the end of the day. Is this a symptom of a mixture problem?

You need in intake trumpet (velocity stack) .... tower sells them.

I put one on my carb the same day I installed my 1.60 in my plane. Daniel (Scoubidou) has done this as well. See his post and photo a page or 2 back. This will cure the fuel-spit problem.

I agree, Motul's synthetic 2 stroke oil is a tip-top lubricant. Smells nice too! (gotta love the french when it comes to these things). I am using Mobil Racing 2T because I can get it locally. Any good bike shop should have a fully synthetic 2 stroke oils that will suit the motor if you can't get the 2T. I like bikes as well as R/C engines . Castrol, Motul, Fuchs, Motorex, Shell all make fully synthetic 2 stroke oils for highly stressed air cooled engines I would trust. I am sure there are other brands, these are just the ones I know.

David, , Give a call to Mobil Canada and they will tell you where is your local distributor. The Mobil 1 oil is very clean. My plane stay clean since i have put a velocity stack and i switched to 40:1 oil ratio.
You can buy Mobil 1 from Esso and i bought mine to NOCO, phone-1-877-464-6626 in Montréal.

To all interested the Mobil 1 2T oil is available in the USA from AV Lubricants in Groveport, Ohio by the case. It sells for about $39.00 plus shipping. Find it at www.avlube.com under the "motorcycles" link.

For the life of me, I cannot get mine to run. Jim Ross maybe able to help me. I have spark, she primes with two turns of the prop, she pops and runs and before you can hit the throttle, she just dies. I am thinking maybe contaminate in the carb or a bad diaphram.
Any one have any clues for me?

If the carb is assembled correctly and it starts and runs out the prime, you have a problem with the crankcase pulse not getting to the carb to operate the pump or a clogged screen...
The diaphragms must be flexible, any hardness will cause problems...a carb kit is about $5.00...
