    Heat is the only cause as far as I know. The split outer ring is a result of rollers touching the ring without an oil film supporting the load. A very typical failure mode for bearings that run either too much load, or run too hot.

    Status: offline     		looking for some feedback on a CB Sukhoi 72" kit i'm building and thinking of installing 1.6 MVVS engine in it.
    i believe the plane will come out around 11-12lbs. if all goes well. the wing area is about 950 sq" and am wondering if it's just too small of a plane for this engine. i've seen others on the web running it but don't have a lot of info with them flying it in this plane.
    also, i see some are going with vibration mounts and other with the radial mount from MVVS. are the vibrations a problem in this engine?
    is there any ignition shut off that comes with the engines?

    For 3D, weight must stay below 12 lbs with this engine on tuned pipe, below 11 lbs on canister, and below 10 lbs on pitts muffler.

    Hey, well not 3D by any means. i'm not that great on the sticks for that, but traditional arobatics i can do. so i guess it's right on the edge of being too heavy for this plane?

    Status: offline     		For aerobatics, the 160 gasser will be great with a pitts muffler, if not too restrictive. The Bisson works well too.
    The rear radial mount is the best way. Either direct fitted to the firewall, or using through the wall iso vibration mounts. A 3-4mm (1/8" medium hard alu sheet backplate with standoffs also works well.

    The engine vibrates less than a glow engine, due to controlled ignition timing. Props still need to be balanced though

    Status: offline     		Hi, finally got to the end of reading this thread! Thnx for all the info.

    Bought a second hand 1.60 red head with vlach ig. Just got it bench mounted last night so hoping to run it this w/end. It's got stock muffler for now. If it runs OK it's going in an Aeroworks Yak 72", hopefully under 10.5 lbs for IMAC.

    Pe, probably gonna be in touch re muffler/pipe combinations soon, but I need to get the plane and do some measuring/thinking! It's got a fairly big cowl and a square-shaped cut-out back to the undercarriage. It looks ideal for one of the short pipe on your web site. What would be a good compromise? Need it to be quiet and broad power. A while ago there was mention of a new 4-chamber pipe, but it's gone from view at the mo. Is it still under development? would it be worth waiting for?

    Anyway, this is my first gas effort, so going ot be lots of trial & error I expect!

    i too am thinking of getting a MVVS. please post up when you have run it,etc. i'd really like to hear more about it and of course a few pics in the Yak too.
    i'm still very undecided on going with this engine. mainly because the airframes that it would go in are boarderline big enough. i've been building a CB Sukhoi 72"

    anyway, keep us updated on your run-in this weekend.

    Status: offline     		The 4-chamber canisters devellopment is delayed, because MTW is tied up with other work. The three chambers work so well, that the 4-chamber design has not the top priority. The 40 - 60cc tuned pipe is available though.

    Large cut-outs in the cowl bottom without air extraction devices make my hair stand on end when cooling is important, like in gas engines. see my forum http://www.prme.nl/forum/ to read more.

    Anyway, ran up my MVVS this weekend and all was good! It was a bit reluctant to get going at first, been stored a while I think. Now starts from hot on 1 flip. don't have an tach at the mo but seemed like it was pulling well, lovely sound.

    Chuck, is this the KMP Katana 2M Freestyle that you're talking about? Also are these pics of YOUR KMP Katana in your post? I've been trying for the loooooongest time to find ANY user info on this plane and your post is the most I can find!

    The thing is that I fly electric so I have to convert most of my bigger planes. However I'm having a REALLY difficult time even finding a build thread (never mind conversion threads!) on any of the message boards online for this plane. These kinds of threads help immensely in determining the pros and cons of an electric conversion of any particular plane.

    So ... would you know of any such conversion threads or even just a regular build thread? If you know of any I'd really appreciate those links. Now since you have one maybe you could help me out with some stats? Stuff like:

    What's the wing area?
    What's the weight of JUST the kit parts?
    What's the suggested flying weight?

    Also what are the flying characteristics like ... 3D capabilities? How about comparisons to the other popular aerobats in this size class? (Yaks, Extras, Edges etc)

    My apologies for all these questions but I've been desperate to find ANY info on this plane.

    Status: offline     		Hi Just an update on my MVVS 26 - I maidened my Yak with it last weekend (see http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4099610/mpage_43/key_/tm.htm) and it was fab.

    Pe, do you know where I can get a plug spanner from? Standard sockets don't seem to fit as the ring as the ring around the plug gets in the way.
