I saw the pics of the 26cc boat. I think it's a little to sophisticated.
I wasn't planning to put lot of money in it. That's why I am that interested in your model :d
But I have to be sure that there is enough lift, so I can go over rough surfaces.

Okey, but i don't think that it would be any more expensive to build a hull like that.

Its at completly diffrent kind of skirt to, and i think that its better.

But i can put up some pics anyway, i will do that later tonight ore tomorrow.

yeah, maybe you're right.
And then there is the matter of the skirt
I have no idea how I should do this.
I read somewhere about the fabric used in the kite for kite-surfers.
But I think it's hard to find, and probably a bit expensive.

Hi again!

Material for the skirt is no problem, for my first hoovercraft i used an old umbrella!, just take the nearest fabrik that you can't "blow thru" and thats the right thickness. Ask your mother/girlfried/sister ore anyone that knows fabrik and thats solved!

Here is some pics!

When i built my 26cc hovercraft in the other thread i used an old lightweight tent for the skirt. The entire tent cost me £4 from my local camping store because it had a tiny hole in it.

That is a good light fabric and it does not tear.

Some updates:

I have paintet the "cabin", fixed the reciver and batterypack so they won't get wet and the enginemount that had broken due to wibrations.

I allså tested it on water today!, it worked well but wasn't as fast as i hoped for, aprox 40Km/h top speed and it didn't realy matter if i had 3/4 ore full throttle

And i allso found out that it floats! the engine died in the mittle of the litte "lake"(100*100 meters) that had formed due to the snow melting outside my garage.

Nice, you guys from the north have the perfect places for these things

I 'll probably try to make one with 2 engines.
A .32 for lift and .35 for thrust.

My Hovercraft project is coming along now too.

Its a "hull and a half" chassis powered by a RS545 motor and a 1800mAH nicad, hull weight alone (6mm plywood) is about 1.43 kilos and is about 600x400 mm (rounded corners on upper hull, square on lower).

The motor is turning a standard 9" plane prop (twin blade). The motor is mounted on top of the 90 degree lift deflector, about 60% of the propwash is used for thrust, 30% for lift and the last 10% is wasted through drag from struts and steering. The skirt is made out of a single piece of one of those inner-tubes you see at the beach. Hi-tech!

As soon as I get some pics / video i'll post them up on the "Unusual Projects" sub-forum.

I have designed and started building my own RC hovercraft but am now at the stage of starting on the skirt. For material i intend to use rip stop nylon but i need to know a bit more about the skirt design. Can anyone provide a photo of the underside of a working hovercraft or details of how to design and construct the skirt.

The hovercraft will be powered by an enya 40 glow fuel engine using the one engine for lift and thrust.

And how do i attach photo's to this message?

My next project is going to be building a fiberglass and carbon fiber hull and i want to use a jet turbine engine to power it, but the cost may enevitably be a problem.

Have you guys seen the Gemini RC model hovercraft available at http://www.modelhovercraft.co.uk/pictures.htm
I have one of these - goes well but I was foolish enough to fly it in high winds so it's off the water at the moment recovering from multiple rolls ( the wind just got under it and flipped it!! )

These's some interesting hovercraft stuff at
http://www.onyabike2in1.co.uk/Hovercraft_index.htm
including a video of the Gemini that take forever to download.

I also noticed today a nitro powered hovercraft has turned up on UK eBay Item number: 3178048836 - worth a look if your after one!

I saw your earlier posts - is that the video on the garage roof? Looks like a superb craft, the handling looked great - is that a kit from somewhere, or all your own work? Your Gemini must have been an early one - mine's only number 15!

My Gemini is still in it's infancy - rolled it once on land first outing because of the wind. Then rolled it about 4 times on water the other weekend ( well I couldn't wait for better weather could I? ) so now it's in the sick bay with damage to the rudders and controls. Thought I'd take the chance to modify the back end a bit as my OS 40 LA engine with it's super silencer was too large and blocked the rudders turning right very far anyway.

It's been great fun though - first craft to persuade me away from fast electric boats to Nitro fuel.

Hi guys!
Me too I'm interested in hovercraft. In BIG hovercaft" xD
I have a 25cc McCullcoch with the stock centrifugal blower (it came from a leaf blower)to provide , and a 40cc Homie supossed to give thrust. I'm designing mine with solidworks, and found the following problems:
- Designing an efficient, yet simple lift system - without excessive losses, without poking holes in the water.
- Saving weight!
- Skirt design, and fixing it.
- Hull

I was wondering if any of hovercraft designers around could give me a few help on any thin they consider necessary, as well as giving me a few specs such as lenght, width weight, etc. for those given powerplants... I thought of making the beast 180cm by 90cm wide, expecting around, er... 15kg. I want it to move fast, not scale-like
Let's keep this the official hover-thread, active!
