Warning about IPA's.....I've never met anyone that likes their first two or three.  I recommend finding the most overly hoppy mother-of-all-bitterness and get through it.  Your taste buds will be shot for the night, but you'll truly appreciate a good IPA the next day.  Looking for an overly hoppy beer?  Look for something that sounds aggressive-Hopzilla, for example (delcious, btw).  Ranger IPA is a good IPA I could have every day!

I've had way more than a few IPAs, still don't like 'em. It's all the rage with microbrews and homebrews lately too, which kind of annoys me.

WARNING!!

If you can get your hands on this stuff, you won't buy anything else. It will pretty much ruin the taste of ALL other beers.

I began my beer experience with Coors, Bud, Olympia and other adolescent swill...I 'graduated' to more 'exotic' beers like Heineken, Corona, and St. Pauli Girl. I finally "concluded" that Canadian beers (Molsen, Labatts) were probably the best one could hope for... However, it wasn't until my wife purchased a Sam Adams assortment for me one Christmas some 15 years ago that my eyes were truly opened to what great beer can be!!!

I jumped into home brewing, which gave me a real beer education, not only how it is made, but all the various types of beer within the two classifications: lagers and ales.
After many years of brewing and tasting, my true passions are overly hoppy IPAs, Double IPAs, and yes even triple IPAs and Barley Wines...
However, I can also truly appreciate ANY well-crafted brew - blondes, pilseners, stouts - and find myself gravitating towards the heavier, maltier brews when the weather turns cold.
ANYTHING brewed by Stone, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, and Bear Republic will not disappoint, but as has been stated by others, you generally work up to these "bigger brews" as their many flavors, layers and alcohol can tend to overwhelm the beer novice.

Having quite a bit of experience with both wine and beer, I can honestly conclude that BEER is a more complex beverage that requires WAY MORE fastidious attention throughout its creation. Not sure how wine became the beverage of snobs...I guess we beer lovers should consider ourselves lucky that beer is overlooked by the pin-headed illuminati

I find that when I travel to the East Coast, truly hoppy beers are difficult to find.
I am lucky enough to live in the Pacific NW where (IMHO) the best beers in the WORLD are brewed I was once on a flight from Munich to Seattle and got into a conversation with a German who was beer lover. I asked him what I thought was a truly rhetorical question: "Where do think the best beers in the world are brewed?" To my surprise, he very candidly responded, "Why, the U.S. of course"

If I were marooned on a desert island and allowed to have only ONE beer, it would be Lagunitas IPA.
CHEERS!

I have found like a few others on here that beer from the Czech Republic is the best! Budvar(Czech budweiser) is good but I prefer Czech Rebel beer!

Here is one that is hard to find in my area but when I do I stock up. It has a smooth somewhat slightly sweet taste.

This is exactly the depth, thickness and taste we have tried(quite well too!) to copy with our home brew.

Just turned 21 last week so now I can drink "legally".

What do you drink? What is your favorite beer?

Currently having a Sam Adams Winter Lager right now. Good stuff. I can appreciate a good beer.

II'm 68 years old. Started drinking at 18 ... Leagle in Wisconsin back then. I don't know how I'd afford it today $4 for a beer in a tavern. I drank heavely for 30 or so years. Heavy I mean first to the tavern after work last to leave. Other wise it was a party some place. Didn't like being drunk but it didn't seem to stop me. I could always remember the stupid stuff I did but it didn't mater. That was untill I started to forget, that was it for me.
Anyway that is just the way it was, every one did it .. Drinking to excess is  One of the things they say contritubeted to my heart condition. Atrib Fliberation, I know take all kinds of pill and have a pace maker.
What really caused me to quit was the fear of a DUI that ment I'd Loose my Aviation Medical. Besides costing an arm and a leg, and the hang overs I suffered, Before I got smart, I'd rather spend that money on Airplanes and radios and good RC stuff. Beleave me A Drunk ain't $hiT, Just stupid.

Beer drinking is to be simple. It's not hard. Drink two for taste, and all the rest for effect.

How well I remember getting old enough to buy beer, but it did not take long for me to get sick and tired of waking up in the morning sick and tired and returned to milk for life. Brian

Amen on the Newcastle Brown Ale. Also if you go down under, you must try Swan, available only in western Australia. For you Canadians I highly reccomend Schooner, the only beer you guys make worth a damn. Too bad its only in Nova Scotia

I disagree, We make some decent beer here in Canada... Schooner not being one of them.
