I personally was looking for a prototype that would hide a YS four stroke. Not much on any kind of beauty, just functionality.

Here's a simple, fixed gear design with good proportions that would probably hide the YS. Just need to thin up that fat airfoil for going racing.

I had thought of doing a scratch built plane of the Miles M.20 since it could easily be made standoff scale with slab sides, foam wing, and a P-47 canopy.  Plus, the yellow underside would be easy to see.  I wish that I would have.  I started on a Heinkel He100.  It doesn't quite meet the requirements of the thread.  I chose it because it had a lot of wing area for a 57'' span.  What I didn't think about was how big the fuselage is in relation to the wingspan and the 4'' spinner.  It now sits with a scaled up outline drawing, crutch made, and a foam wing cut for the past couple of years.  My lesson learned is to measure everything before starting.

And this shows that anything can be found on the internet.

I have this one ready to go at 407 square in for a YS .70 and a 3 1/4 spinner.

This is the same issue I ran into when designing up the Yak-11 "Czech Mate" seen elsewhere in this forum. In order to get the desired square inches the fuselage would have been huge (like a 10 inch diameter cowling!) if I had maintained scale proportions. I ended up stretching the wing span as much as I could without destroying the scale look of the airplane, to my eye at least.

PS - Huge fan of the He-100 and would like to build a giant scale model one day. The He-112B is a great looking bird too but difficult to find good scale drawings for.

Personally, I find that it doesnt make that much of a difference either way so I build mine scale. We are all bracket racing anyway, and can't fly any faster then the breakout time for your class. Hopefully I can prove this theroy next spring.

Here is a Russian sight with what appear to be 1/48 scale drawings with cross sections.  I don't know how accurate you need.
