A friend of mine just got a brand new Toyota Prius V. I asked him if I could see how many 2M planes I might be able to fit in it? Well, according to the pictures, it looks like it is possible to fit two. I would of course remove the stab and rudder off of the backup plane if I had one of these vehicles for a better fit. Judge for yourself. He is easily getting 40 mpgs.

If a deck is built, the 2nd plane probably can sit on the deck nicely without removing any control surfaces, and has its nose pointing at the tail of the car.

You can easily fit 3 then
(ok, it isn't quite 2m but he car is also a lot smaller than a Prius too)
Was kind of handy being able to park the car in "the pits" - always had a good battery etc for the starter and never had to unpack much.

Oh those were the days

I had no problem getting a plane, wing box, tent, canopy, food, even had room for a generator in my prius when I went to Virginia in September

Reminds me of the old limerick about

But his cojones hung out so he lost'em

I learned this one years ago from a friend who had a Bug Eye Sprite. He gave the English version.

I take my wife. With all her support equipment I need a GMC Envoy and a trailer to fit the planes. Is this a record?

Unfortunately, the Yaris is not available as a hatchback in the U.S. The Toyota Corolla is, and they call it a Matrix. Mine has slightly different body panels and is called a Pontiac Vibe, (they are identical inside) and two 2m Pattern planes fit in it like it were a mini van.

With these small >40 mpg puddle jumpers, why don't you guys dont just fit wings and tailfeathers to the car? See pics. That way you solve all the problems of getting planes into a car - just fit a speed controller en outrunner which you run of the car battery.......

I got a another pic of a very different car (grey car combo) - don't know what it is but sure the concept is very interesting - wonder if this guy is an RC modeller too?

Cheers

With a Chrysler Town & Country with Stow and Go, you can fit two planes without taking off the stabs and an American gets to keep his job for another day.

How many Americans work at the Windsor Ontario assembly facility? At least the Prius is built in Mississippi.

I believe that Prius is made in Japan. Probably there is confusion with the Camry. I will agree that the one of the best cars for 2 meter pattern planes is the minivan.

I got a v about a month ago, it carried 2 62" osiris, charger case, large toolbox, transmitter, suitcase, large video camera case, case of sodas, road trip candy and me to the D7 championships the weekend after I got it and it has since carried an Osiris, a Habu 32 and a 2M Vanquish along with charger, toolboxes, etc. without breaking a sweat. I could easily fit two Vanquishes (if I had them) nose to tail and an Osiris and the habu, but I don't have two vanquishes :-) I will soon have an 89" slick and it carried the fuse box + wing box without difficulty (had to fold the front passenger seat flat, but that's part of why I got this car :-)

It's an awesome car and gets about 42 mpg for me on the highway, 44-ish city.

I would have loved to get a stow + go minivan, I've rented them before and love them, but the gas mileage really sucks and I'd rather spend my play dollars on planes and going to competitions than on gasoline.

Man, I didn't mean to make this a whose is bigger than whose or Buy American versus Japanese. I just wanted to point out something if someone was considering one, they would have a viable transport. I'm still using a 1998 Ford Econoline and my other car is a Chevy. It was just a curiosity thing. I know when I buy any vehicle, it must pass the minimum of one 2M plane rule.

My Pontiac Vibe was built at a plant that was run jointly by GM and Toyota in Fremont CA. They built Corollas, and the old GEO Prism there in addition to the Vibe. They all used the same drive train. Sadly the plant was closed two years ago, and the Vibe went away with it. You can still get a Toyota Matrix, if you are willing to settle for Canadian made.

The global economy makes the lines a lot fuzzier than they used to be.

Even though the Chryler minivan is assembled in Windsor, most of the components going into the van are made in the midwest (at least they used to be) providing thousands of jobs. If you ever have occasion to cross the Ambassador Bridge from Detroit to Windsor, you'll no doubt see numerous Chrysler trucks going in both directions. This isn't the forum for all of this so I'll stop with one idea and let it go at that. Can your place of business afford the loss of thousands of customers not able to buy your products anymore because they lost their jobs as autoworkers? Eventually, we're all impacted. FWIW, I'm not an autoworker, I'm just living in the blight of region that was built on their backs.

It will interesting to check. I believe Canada is part of free trade agreement. I am sure that someone reading this can give us details around how this works. Therefore, where is assembled does not tell too much.
