Old Bird-glad to hear from you guys.  The plane is still in the hangar while my friend recovers from surgery and cancer treatments.  I've tried to keep him in the loop and he wants to be there when she rotates.  He has been home once and is doing much better but wasn't able to stay.  Sorry I can't give a better time line.  As for as the finished weight, I had to add several ounces of lead shot to the nose to balance.  She is in at 23.5 pounds and I'm concerned about the 52's.  I just can't see where I put that much more weight in the plane in the construction phase over what the plans called for or Sparkys 16+ pound version. Time will tell about the 52's.  I am a scale flight man myself and if she will lift with stable control I'll be happy.

Roger, thanks for the comeback. Sorry to hear about your friend, we hope he pulls through.
Norman's plane is also going to come in about 22-25lbs depending on the engines and how much lead to balance. We are at
5500 ft at our flying site so now I am thinking .91 4-strokes.

Best regards from old bird and nj.

Hey guys, got to let you know my friend is out of the hospital after they hooked his plumbing back up and got rid of the "bag".  He is recovering and doing great!  I thought I would share a photo of a fill in project I had a set of prints for from MAN.  I wanted to do something different so here it is.

My wife snuck out and captured a few construction photos during the construction.  I loved building the floats after reading several articals and learning the specs. for size requirements and mounting requirements.  The plane is foam core for the wings and 0.25 foam sheet for bulkheads, stick and sheeting to complete the fuse. , and everything covered with film from china.   The plans called for a 61 2-cyl. but  with the addition of the floats I used an old but new 120 saito to power this lady.  Waiting to get the On/Off charge switch and a fuel valve (ordered from TH) installed to lit her up.  11 pounds total weight is great also.  She should go straight up.

What a great seaplane, what could be better, twin seaplane; I love it...Has anyone considered electric as I have a 108" PBY 5-A in the works and will go electric and also have a NP CL-415 with twin OS .65's as we have an altitude problem here in the Denver area as well...Kevin

This PBM would be great with electric power, however, i don't know if any one has built one yet.  Keith Sparks could answer that question.  Contact him at Parkflyer Plastics.

I just finished watching an electric version on youtube and there are a couple of the same plane...Looks like the way to go, but not sure of their "setup" motors, batteries and that sort of stuff...There also is one OS .65 version as well, and it flys great as well...Thanks for your response...Kevin in cold Denver

To all, BTW, really how difficult is the PBM to build, it sure loooks like a fun plane to fly as I am hooked on seaplanes/floatplanes...Of course where we fly it is frozen, anyone for skiis? Kevin

Say there Roger, would you happen to have any construction photos that you could share and any helpful hints that you used during the build process, and my it is a sweet plane...Kevin

Kevin did you say you had seen three PBM"s or three other sea planes both electric and nitro?  I've only seen one PBM like mine.

Roger, there is one electric (two videos) and one nitro, and there was another but the quality of the video was FAR from watchable...Kevin

The photos shown are the ones I have, ones showing stages of construction.  You buy the print and I'll help you through it!  There are some mistakes in the drawings and a few patterns are the wrong size, but nothing that a little common sense overcomes.

Thanks, I will hold you to it...It has always been better to follow someone who has gone thru the "fire" when it comes to scratch builds, because they often turn into a HUGE pile of scrap in the trash...Thanks again...Kevin

Finding the videos, well all I really did was go to youtube, and then search for the PBM videos, it may take a little searching but the good ones are really pretty good...Hope this helps...Kevin

Roger, did you find the videos...Also, I just now noticed that your plane does not have flaps, but the one in the electric video does, is this an option or even necessary...My little foam PBY flies well and does not have flaps per scale, and it seems ok to me...Kevin

Well I finally saw the video's of the electric version and the plane was beautiful, the pilot was a little nervous with the full bore take-offs  and the heavy abrupt landings, and what really bothered me, I could have cried when I heard it fly.  I just can't bring myself to go the electric way-the motor sound ruins everything for me!  Give me a couple of syncronize gas engines and you'll see a smile on my face.

Roger, and roger that on the sound...But after watching and listening to Keith Sparks' 1/4 scale P-40 one would think that perhaps props could lend a hand in there...Also, just watched a couple of videos with MRRC sound systems and they are not bad, but I DO LOVE of the SOUND of synched twins as I have several P-38 (2) Dual Ace and a CL-415 (not flown) and also a foam 58"ws PBY...How is your neighbor doing ? Kevin in Denver PS...Did you also see the video with OS engines ?

My friend still has healing problems where the bag was connected thru the stomach area on the side of his belly.  Not home yet , he is at his daughter home not far from the hospital.  I'm about through with the Beaver and the Spitfire is ready so I got another friend who flies and fishes with me who is going to help me maiden the two together.
