Hi,

Yeah, that's on the light side for average, but the plane was test flown on a 120, and it flies great on that. I flew the one I built with a 170.

Your plane should weigh 31-32# dry. Thus you will have just about a 1:1 thrust ratio. except when you fuel it. I never fill my tanks full even with a Rhino...they just hold way too much for my style of flying. I fill them about 3-4 full, fly a 6 min flight and land with the tanks about 1/4 full. Your jet will be just fine with the Super Eagle. The only difference is you wont have the "its going out of sight vertical" from the initial takeoff. Trust me you are going to love this jet. No flying for me this weekend....weather stinks. I was loaded and enroute to the field yesterday when it started raining.....it hasnt stopped yet. New CG news at a later date.

Agree completely, this plane could be a tanker with the supplied tanks. I think it would be plenty of fuel for a 180/200!

I fill mine about 3/4 inch from the top, fly 9 minutes and land enough for several go arounds....

I landed once with "full" tanks, after a flameout on second lap....plane made it back and landed ok without any gear issues.

Great plane, have fun.

Dave

You are right Dave, I have considered a 180/200 size motor when I build my next one. This jet is the one I will always keep in my squadron!

I agree with all the guys say.

fly mine on an older JetCat 160

I measured my fuel tanks before fitting, if full they hold 6 litres plus what's in a header !!!!

I calibrated the tanks by marking up the sides for total fuel capacity. I fill to just under 4 litres. taxi out fly 6 minutes and land and still have 3/4 to  1 litre left. this with  use of throttle as it  flys so well on 1/2 to 3/4 throttle with full only on take off and  the verticals.

Best model I have had for the full speed range, I would have another if I lost mine,  no  hesitation

Ian

More progress.

Got the gear doors done, nose steering done, all equipment trays mounted, and the airlines all routed.

I used some aluminum tubing with wire inside for the canopy locking. It goes in from the main hatch area. So I have no hatch latches on the plane. Canopy frame is painted already with flat black inside the frame. I need to install the glass next but will try and tent it first. I have no clue why the glass does not come tented to start with.

All I have left now is to finish off the wing mounting alignment holes and installing the pipe and rest of equipment. I will be done this week with all of that. I might try and paint the plane next weekend. Plane is a very easy plane to build and the quality is great on this kit. Cant wait to fly it!

I still have the gear door cylinders on back order and the elevator servos and flap servos to get. After I get those it will be ready to fly. I am thinking about 2 weeks from now.

For the thrust vectoring.........
I got it all mounted and done. The instructions are worthless since the linkage on mine is on the top and the instructions show it on the bottom. But I was able to get around it. I didnt want to mount the servos to the fiberglass fuselage and instead wanted to mount them to a wood former. I made some small servo blocks and glued them to the gear formers just behind the gear opening. This worked out great because now I can access a sullivan quick link on the servo from inside the gear door opening. So if I need to remove the thrust vectoring system for access this can now be done easy. The way yellow did it in the instructions looks to be a giant pain in the a$$. I had to use the same channel on my radio for the thrust vectoring so the linkages must be perfect.

It does look very cool seeing the nozzles moving.

Gunn,

How 'bout a quick video of the VT nozzles in action? It's fun...

Shaun I will get one after I reinstall it. Its off now to install the pipe.

I tried to tint the canopy today with no success. I used ritdye at 125 degrees and the canopy resisted it and did not take on any color at all. So back to the drawing board on the canopy. I dont know why yellow just didn't use tinted plastic to start with. They did a great job on the F16 canopy. So not sure if I am going to mess with it anymore. I dont want to try and paint the inside with the stuff the car guys use.

Well so far I am at only 25 pounds!

I still have 4 servos to put in and the receiver battery and ECU battery. But everything else installed including the turbine im at 25 pounds. So I am thinking if I keep the paint light then I should be at 28 pounds dry! Should fly well at this weight!

Question my turbine mounts are a tad bit to wide for the turbine mount holes on the turbine. What is the best way to mount it in this airframe? Looks like the mounts are screwd in and I could add some small spacers on them to move them in a tad?

I made mounts from aluminun sheet to bridge the gap. A good paint job should only add about 1.5 lbs.

Tom I grabbed some aluminum from work thanks for the tip!

Cycross the F22 kit does not come with decals. Even if it did I would just throw them away. The decals I got with my F16 from yellow went on my habu because they are not good quality. You are better off going to tailormade decals or aeroloft and getting dry transfers. They look way better and for the raptor they are pretty cheap since the raptor does not have many.

Thanks Fender. Are you going to make Flroida jets this year?

I got a few pics of it all together last night after I had it on the scale. I am going to try mixing food coloring with future floor finish today and see if that will work for the canopy. I will also get the bypass trimmed fitted and turbine fitted so I can then fit the bell mouth for the pipe. That should all be done tonight.

Thanks Kirk! Hey man you have been milking that F86. Have you been working allot?

Tom you where right about the fast build. What a great kit! I cant say enough good things about it. I cant wait to fly the thing. Just looking at it the lifting surface area is huge and looks to fly with a light wing loading.

I just ordered the dry transfers from Tailormade decals.

So mine will be with the 192Fighter wing. Serial number 0082. So she will be all done before Florida jets. I will add stuff like the cockpit and other scale features like lights and such after Florida jets.

More progress.

Started mounting the turbine and bypass. Pipe is also secured and done.

Does the distance look ok to everyone between the bell mouth and pipe? Did you guys cover your servo wires with anything or are they ok just being secured away from the pipe?

Thank you Gunradd for your pointer on the decals. Looks like I will be doing the same.

Good luck to your finishing on time for the Florida Jets.

cycross I emailed Ralle from tailormade my colors and he matched them already by paint code and is shipping them out on Monday already! He also sent me a diagram of the locations. When I got mine from aeroloft for the F16 I was on my own on the locations. So very happy with the service from Tailormade so far.

Hi Your build is looking good, I think your turbine distance looks fine

Had four more flights on mine today, as I said before this jet has so far needed zero work after each session, just clean down and check through. No issues at all.

Played with thrust vectoring today. I have mine set up both for pitch and roll. I know the full size only uses pitch and I will just use pitch from now on. the roll element is not so effective. I will await Tom's flights on a more rearward C of g with interest

Keep going on the build you are going to love this model

Ian

pipe and turbine location look like mine as well. I have about 40 flights on mine and no problems with the heat aound the pipe entrance.

I did put some heatshield on the wood former that holds the pipe bellmouth but it has not discolored at all. Not sure if it was necessary.

Well the weather finally cooperated yesterday and I got a couple of flights with the new rearward cg. I didnt crash it but I found my cg is probably as rearward as you would want to go. The hi AOA was much better and a big nose high final was easy. The only problem was a little over flare on landing, it would almost come to a stop. I think it can be corrected with the elev trim in the flap system. Got home too late to unload and measure the new cg but I will get it done today or tomorrow and post. Yee Haw! What a good flying jet!
