I finally weighed my Suk. 23 pounds 10 ounces with a +/- 2 oz. digital scale. I'm happy with that! That's RTF but without the four 4-40 hatch screws or the graphics. The only anti-weight steps I took were drilling a bunch of holes in the tail section, and basically just careful assembly technique- trying not to add anything unneeded. I'll post pics as soon as the graphics get here.

The only thing I'm not liking is one of the elevator servos (8411) does the "crappie flop". It gives the non-digital guys something to worry about.

The Hitec 5735 on the rudder is a horse. My Sukhoi does really nice knife edge loops! The JR 8231's on the ailerons are perfect in my opinion on this bird and if I had it to do over again I'd try 8611's or Hitec digitals on the elevators.

I weighed mine too. 23 lbs 4 oz! Everything stock, except for the main gear, which is carbon fiber. My scale is adequate I think but could probable use a calibration. What scales are you guys using? What about the digital 50 lb fish scale avaliable a Wal-Mart?

I'm using a STREN brand 50 pound digital fishing scale that claims to be accurate to within two ounces. It measured battery packs, engines and mufflers to within a half ounce of the manufacturers listed weights. I checked it once with a 10 pound weight that I had checked on another digital scale and it was right on at that weight. I really don't care if it's off 3 or 4 ounces even. I would have been upset if it said 26 pounds though! Now I feel better about purchasing a smoke system

Hey Guys.... still waiting to get mine in the air . Yesterday brought her out and had some throttle linkage problems,(could not bring the idol low enough) Took her home and corrected the problem, got it out in my yard to check it out and the zdz 80 twin ran great, however after adjusting the idol my elevators were flapping pretty hard and before i knew it i had a Hitec Digital 5645mg stripped out searching for center! I can not believe it stripped a metal gear! (yes everything is balanced) i am spinning a 24x10 mejlick prop and a dave brown spinner all factory drilled. The only thing i can blame this on (I HOPE!) is the fact that it was sitting on the concrete patio and the wings were not on. Am i correct in the fact that this will put a tremendous amount of undo vibration on the surfaces? But still i can not believe it took out the metal gear! I ordered a replacement gear set i hope to have by tomorrow, if so i'll go for the maiden this weekend. I hope to take this as a lesson learned, run it in the grass with the wings on!!! I know Hitec would warranty this but i do not feel like waiting a month for the turnaround! All this after i have just waited for 2 weeks to install 2 new warrantied servos(Hitec 5645mg's) in the right wing panel after our first maiden attempt. After setting up and checking everything out the right aileron went up then dropped and cooked itself!!! This also took out the second servo from the drag!! I am so dissapointed! My aeroworks Edge has these servos all the way around as well and after about 15 flights all is well so far, but after all these issues on the sukhoi i can not help but be paranoid!!! Hitec was real good about the warranty on the burned out servos.... it actually blew a hole out the side of the case!!! . I just hope i did not get a bad batch of these things! Or they are about tho cost me a $2500.00 airplane!!! Was that strip out my fault?? or do you guys think it should take more vibration?? Thanks all! Glad to hear yours are flying so well! Later.

I believe you found your problem. Never run a big gasser without the wings on!!! I'd bet money that ruined your servo.

Running the engine without the wings bolted on WILL cause a lot of undue vibration, especially if it occurs at the resonating frequency.
The wings tend to dampen the vibration.

Glad the servo quit on the ground and not in the air

Since you have found out you have some damaged servos I would strongly recommend that you go over the entire frame of the plane to make sure none of the glue joints vibrated loose, running a big gasser without the wings on it is a sure fire way to find out how good a job the builder did.

I agree with Lee. I'd also look at all the metal servo gears.

I picked up my graphics today. Sweet! Do most of you use the dry application method or do you use some windex?

Any of you guys using the Futaba R138DP 8-channel PCM receiver? Any reason I should not? I assume it can handle 8 servos.

    Ryan

Thats what i ran in mine works great.

I have a 102 in mine too! I had trouble trying not to climb in hover! Mine weighs under 24 pounds.

Finally got my graphics on. The bad news is that my ignition is acting up again and I'm running on one cylinder at times.

ZDZ 80RV just quit on me in a hover about 10' off the deck. It fell gear down and broke both the main & tail gear. Amazing: no other damage! Anyway, I checked the clunk: good, checked the battery, good. Anyone one else having trouble with the engine quiting in a hover? The Sukhoi is on the 3rd gallon and the 14th flight. Overheating maybe? Haven't tried to restart it yet.
