Hello and good Monday to all. I have finally completed my solution to my relocation of the radio equipment. I added two 1/8th birch ply to make the walls. One of them butted up against frame 4. Then used 1/4 inch square birch to frame around the compartment. This way I could screw in my shelf containing all my electronics. Then I used 1/4 inch square birch again to make another frame above to hold the lexan.

Here I cut a piece of Lexan to fit. Then I used 1/16th inch rubber to make a gasket and used silicone sealant to attach the gasket to the Lexan. I got the gasket material at AutoZone.

Here are some pics of what I made to hold all the radio components. I mounted everything and then I ran into a problem. I couldn't get the shelf holding all the components into the canopy. The problem was that the frame to screw in the Lexan was blocking the way. I ended up cutting one side framing out and making a support on the equipment holder. Then added the frame for the Lexan. It may not be the best design, but it  Works perfectly.

Here are a few pics of it all put together. All I have left to do with this is to seal and paint it, then add some foam rubber to the bottom and sides of the compartments  reduce wear and vibrations of the equipment.

looks good
just a heads up
R U sure about the 4 cell for the S3305 rudder servo? you get 99 oz-in, a bit marginal(?) on 6v you would get 124 oz-in. I would feel more comfortable with that.

cheers v.

99 in-oz is fine for a scale boat. If this was a rigger or a gas powered scale/Thunderboat I would say look at more power as well. You also have to look at the weight factor with the batteries. I'd finish building the boat and get everything in it first. IF the boat seems tail heavy, then you could try the larger pack before adding any ballast. One other thing to remember is that going with more juice also makes the servo faster and some find that a faster servo is harder to drive

Hello Vasek. It is actually funny that you bring up the torque issue. I was unsure about it as well but after looking at the Futuba website I was happy with my choice.  Also, the space i have to work with is limited, and as HJ stated, weight is of a concern of mine. But, just in case, I bought an extra cell with a tab. I can just solder it on if the output is not sufficient.

Hello everyone. I had a chance to finish the canards. here are some pics. Now, Dumas has included aluminum pieces for the flaps. Is this a good move to put them on? I see that some have made them functional by the use of a servo. I do not want to do that. But is there another way to make them functional? Maybe manually on the bench? or should I make them out of wood instead of using the aluminum?

 Hello Vasek,
Thanks for the idea. That is a simple solution. Here is my idea. I can fabricate those little brackets out of the supplied aluminum and I can make a fiberglass sheet for the working canard flap. I think that will work.

yeah, you can make them easily. I ordered other stuff from them so i bought them @ $5 for the rear wing to be adjustable on my Miss Renault build. also bought the wing. I'm sensitive to fiberglass & epoxy so i don't make any of that if i can buy it ready-made.

cheers,v.

That arrangement won't work on the Circus, Vasek. The video you were looking at was for a boat with a full floating canard rather than one that has the front half fixed. I'll see if I can find some pictures of what has been done on other boats of the same era for you and post them in the next day or two

Hello HJ. That would be great if you can find some pics for me. Here is something I made up out of some scrap aluminum. It is sort of what Vasek was talking about. I think it would work just need to think of a way to attach it to the fixed pard of the canard.

Hello. Here is an update on my progress. I have finished the fins. They have the bases for the stabilizers. I did not like the idea of having the metal fin tabs visible on the outside of the fins. So I installed them into the bases of the fins. It does make them go out farther towards the non-trip by about 1/8th of an inch than what the plans call for. But, it looks better.  The third picture shows the fin tab inserted to the fin.

Well, this completes the construction part of the boat. Here is some pictures of it. All I have to do is make the rear canard flaps, seal it and install the hardware and engine. I will order everything tomorrow. Hopefully i can get everything in about a week. In the mean time, I will be doing all the sealing and starting the paint prep.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I ordered all the hardware, engine and stuff, some fuel components, all the paint, and an airbrush and compressor to complete the boat. Everything should be here by the end of next week. Needless to say, it was a very expensive day. I will post my progress in the near future. In the mean time I am doing a little filling and finishing work.

Hello, it has been a while. School has been keeping me pretty busy. I had a chance to put on the rudder. The old (right)  rudder arm is still on it. But, the new left rudder arm from rossi will be in tomorrow. Here is a couple of pics of the rudder and the strut.

Now while I was dry fitting the engine, I ran into some problems pertaining to the layout of my radio box. The two servos were out of plane to the hardware, and would take a lot of bending and long angles for the rods to connect the servo to the hardware. So I had to do make a new radio box. The first pic is of the old radio box. The second one is of the layout that I am using, and the nose of the boat is to the left.

Now here is the layout that I have adopted. This is everything, so before I mount things permanently and apply the decks..... I ask what do you think about it? It seems as if it is balanced from starboard to port. As for bow to stern, CG is about 1.5 inches from the sponson transoms. Any input would be great.

The problems I see are that the fuel lines have the possiblility of chaffing running through the engine bay walls or melting by bouncing up and hitting the pipe. Solve those problems and the rest of it looks good

Hey Jae, I have been enjoying your build from the beginning and I must say, EXCELLENT JOB so far! Are you sure this is your first build? lol The only thing I would recommend is that you provide some sort of access to your fuel tanks for servicing before you apply the decking. If you develop a fuel line leak or the stopper goes bad how are you going to correct it? Just a suggestion...
