Status: offline 		It must have been a handful with the escapement, even with the prop on backwards. Mine is fitted with an old gold-cased, red-tanked engine from the 60s, though. It's all original except for the carb body which has been replaced by a newer black one. Come to think of it, I believe I bought that from you. The guy I bought the engine from inherited it from an uncle who flew .010 free-flighters in the late 60s and early 70s. It had been in storage ever since. It's my best .010 engine.

Status: offline 		3 more flights on the Page Boy this evening with no wind and she was great. I have a GWS 50xs motor and it climbs too good full power. About 1/4 power and it does good. When I cut power it dives pretty bad till it builds up some speed and then becomes more shallow. I am able to power up just before touch down to flair some since it's electric, but if it wasn't, it would hit pretty hard. (It's single channel) But if I raise the leading edge more, it will climb more?????? Any ideas from the single channel crowd? Ken must be looking down from that big model field in the sky just grinning.

Status: offline 		Very cool. Thanks for posting the vids. Looks like we each captured some of the original elements of the project while taking different approaches. Yep, I think Ken would like that. I also loved your daughter's voiceover while on the phone. I could just hear my daughter saying the same thing. "We'll be done in a couple of minutes." I once had my teen daughter video me operating one of my Cox helicopters and when I watched it later she narrated, "Here's my nerd dad with his weird little helicopter."

Status: offline 		Yea, where we flew is like 3 minutes from the house. She doesn't mind going up there because she knows we will only be a short while. She actually drove while I held the plane and radio. When she was younger, use to take her sail plane flying and she chased the high start. Too old for that now!

Status: offline 		Well guys, I know I missed it, but I have managed to carve some balsa today.

So much so in fact that I should be fitting tail feathers tomorrow if all goes according to plan.

After building 2m patter ships It's refreshing to build an entire aircraft (give or take) from a single sheet of 48" x 4" x 1/16" balsa!

So far, wings are ready to dope

Fuselage is planked and engine test fitted.

Tailfeathers are cut, and landing gear, and wheel pants (hehehe) are ready to install.

Yes, I need gear where I fly, sadly.

soon my pretty, soooon.

Here's my pageboy, just before it's maiden, which it succeded in survivng.

It's a snappy little flyer, with 2 HS45's and a 150mah battery pack it tipped the scales at a meager 103 grams!

Status: offline 		Mine's all built and ready to dope. I don't know if the engine has ever been run as I got it from my uncle. Doesn't appear that it has. My question to you all is, what percent nitro and what percent castor would you recommend? I have the cox fuel you buy at the hobby shop but don't know if that is appropriate. I also have a friend who can make glow fuel, to order,for me. What do the sages suggest? Thanks. Hopefully, you'll see the finished plane yet this week.

Status: offline 		My choice is this. Sig Champion 35% is the closest I think you will find. I add 2oz of Castor to bring the Castor content up a shade and the Nitro down to around 33.

I have looked at this, and my only concern was that it was not a pure castor blend. Nobody does custom blends in small batches?

Status: offline 		The Sig Champion 25% nitro fuel works for me. I add about 1.5fl oz of castor to a quart bottle. There is enough castor to keep the engine lubed up and the synthetic oil keeps everything clean and slows the varnish buildup. This blend is good enough to keep all my Cox engines happy. Since I run various sizes and styles of them, I prefer to use 1 fuel blend that will cover the bases. The plane in the video posted above runs on that mix with consistent starts and steady power. Just my experience.

Thanks, Al. The all up weight is 4.8 ounces but that is because I have a square mini 4.8 cell NIMH battery in it. If I got a small lipo and regulator I could drop .6 ounces. I think it will be fast. Glad I built it with rudder AND elevator.
