Tee Bee -> 50th Anniversary Flight - Pageboy (11/27/2011 12:49 AM)
|
A little history: After Cox introduced the TD .010 engine in 1961, Mr. Ken Willard set out to build a RC plane that utilized it. He called it the Pageboy. Most of the planes small enough to fly with the tiny new TD were of the free-flight variety back then. According to a Model Airplane News article, on March 24, 1962, Mr. Willard was credited with flying the smallest RC plane in the world. Its sole control surface was the rudder actuated by a Babcock escapement. 50 years later: As a small tribute to Ken Willard, I hope to fly my TD .010 powered Pageboy in his honor 50 years after his first successful flights with the design. As I thought about it, I realized that there are some other Pageboy owners out there who might like to participate as well. For someone interested in the little TD .010 engine, it might be a good catalyst to get one running and in the air. It's an easy plane to build and is fun to fly. I've seen links to the original plans here somewhere and EarlyRC was laser-kitting them for a while. I'm not sure of their availability any more. Maybe others could help with info or links. My goal is to fly the model as close to March 24, 2012 as possible(Compensating for work, life, weather, etc.) and document the event with some pics or video. Nothing too fancy. Just a modern day modeler paying respect to someone who helped us get where we are today. Anyone else care to join in?
