I don't plan on buying the car because I have no place to run on road, even if I didn't unlock the 100 mph feature. But I'm big time digging the radio system and plan on upgrading my current slash radio system to the new rig with the iPhone dock. The telemetry is cool because I can monitor my motor temps at the track and it seems to be way more user friendly than the current method, the multi function knob, for making adjustments. It will also make binding and tuning In my other models a breeze. It's cool because the current 2.4 receivers will link with it, I won't have telemetry on anything but the slash, so my spartan, slash, and my Losi mini 8 (switched it to a traxxas receiver due to tx issues with the Losi stuff and didn't want to shell out the cash for a spektrum for one car) will all be programmed into my phone and with with the quick swipe of a finger I will be able to tune all my stuff in and only have to keep up with one tx instead of 3. I know lots of folks are upset about the idevice, but I'd say other company's will follow shortly with something else that may be a little more versatile. But I have also noticed that the more time goes by since the announcement and the shock factor is wearing down, more and more folks are warming up to the car and new radio system. I'm pretty sure the new tqi system will also hold 30 models so I guess now I have a reason to keep buying new stuff lol, can't have all that capacity and not use it!!! I would however be interested in a 50-60 mph 1/10th version of this car as was mentioned earlier and I'd say we will get one in the not to distant future, or at least something similar anyways.

Foxy, thanks for that! I got flamed a couple of days ago an shut off my email notices because people were getting a little excited.
Keep it cool guys. I'm glad the car excites everyone in so many ways. Even the radio is getting flamed for new technology.
New is better, change is good. we can't stay in the past with crystal radios and only on rc car company.

They hobby industry deparately needs new innovations to get people interested in rc cars. Look what happened with the SC trucks. Maybe a 1/10th version will spring from this and a lower price point for all you budget minders. who knows?
I only know one thing, I will have an XO-1.

Not all change is good... Change just for the sake of change I feel is generally bad especially when it alienates a portion of the people who it might have been interested. Especially when its a gimmick which the controller seems to be. An LCD screen could easily have been put on instead on an iphone/pod(granted it wouldn't look as pretty, but hell this isn't a fashion contest), and it would have retained its functions, and if they wanted some cheap flash memory chip to save the telemetry data so you could view it later, or even include a USB connector so it could be read.

Trying to compare slapping an iphone onto a radio to act as a screen instead of an LCD, to say changing from AM to 2.4ghz is honestly a horrendous comparison(it seems that what you were eluding too). But anyways my feeling on the two technologies 2.4ghz helped make the hobby easier for people to gather, made RC control way more reliable, less signal interference, and add more RC's to a track. Adding an iphone/pod dock did umm nothing that wasn't already done by other companies with a simple LCD screen... The only new technology the radio added was forcing people to use a gaudy overpriced item to unlock the speeds that are listed in big numbers.

On topic: I like how the blue one looks. Can't wait to find the body, and tires on ebay to slap on my pede 4X4(or extend the chassis to fit) so I can make a sporty looking rally.

Side note I made this post a faster read by editing over 60% of it out.

think most people just stopped caring for the most part figuring they will just buy a roller, and throw in the power plant of their choosing, and save $900 off the price, I'll be honest I was at the tired of it part till I saw him comparing other real innovative techs to the radio

Yeah I'm not interested in their radios, and I don't care to link my iphone to it. I might buy one to fool around with because I like new things but I'll drop in a FAAST or Spektrum radio.

Yeah Spektrum is cool but I like Futaba stuff more frankly, just preference. Traxxas radios perform decently but they feel so cheap and toyish in the hand. I have a 3PKS with FAAST module that I love.

I put my traxxas 2.4 from my slash 4x4 on the shelf. I didn't like how you had to do adjustment by counting lights. I hooked up a futaba with a lcd screen. I think traxxas should have went with a built in screen like many others have. Not a big fan of the ipod situation... The car on the other hand, looks cool and who wouldn't love that speed. Of course nobody NEEDS a 100mph car, but hey it's out there. And in my opinion break-threws no matter what company comes out with them are great.

Alot of people have said "you can build A 100MPH car out of any existing RC" True! But I can bet if I took my slash or tt-01 or rustler or even my savy to 100 it wouldn't hold the ground very well at all. The X0-1 seems to have figured out how to do this. Other companies are bound to follow. Also I really like the cooling duct that runs to the motor. Natural cooling instead of having to hook up fans that will steal power and battery.

I just think that more people should look for the good that this could bring to rc overall. I mean this little toy car made the news. Made the radio. People who know nothing about hobby grade rc's even know about the X0-1. That's a big thing. That means that more people COULD be looking to pick up an RC now.. Maybe these people that have seen this car on the news are thinking wow i didn't know about this things. The hobby needs to grow, and in my opinion Traxxas DOES do good to get new comers into rc. Of course these new comers my not be into the $1100 price tag. But the car may bring general intrest and they buy somethimg cheaper. I am willing to bet that most people in rc first bought a "cheaper" version of something that they upgraded to later....

I still like that video by Jang. He said everything he needed to.

And guess what? Attention weather good or bad is still attention and traxxas has got everyone attention with this car.

I still thnk that change is good! Some changes work and some don't. If the manufacturers did not make innovations you would not see better technology. I don't know of the iphone deal is better or a gimmik but sometimes things like these catch of with the public. changing from AM and FM to 2.4 is better for the fact that we don't have to use the crystal technology. so I don't understand why this is not a good annology.

I'm usually careful about new technolody and was hesitant to switch to 2.4 ghrz when I saw some guys stll getting radio inerference with their new 2.4 ghrz radios. The radio has been improved  and I now have several 2.4 ghrz radios.  I will probably leave the stock radio in the XO-1 initially, but can always swap in my Futaba 3pk .

I really like the areo technology to the chassis and body.  some of this has been tried before, (by me) but this on\e appears to work and the body was alleged to have been designed (by computer or wind tunnel?)  for 100 mph.

I think this car will be competitive for insane speed runs, depending on how the tires grip on velodrome banked turns.  I'm not too optimistic about the popularity of the XO for on road racing,  There are no classes for it and it is rather expensive.

It will be interesting to see where people will run this carr.  At speeds below 50 mph you can't use the areo advantages of this car.

I'm a sucker for new innovations, I have a shelf queen SC8 and F103 Gt to prove it.
i am still thrilled about the XO-1.  Radio notwithstanding, one of the few new cars that can be considered exciting.

Bottom line, Iike the red one.

I am happy that they are trying to release something high end, and the thing is - they often make great stuff like the Revo platform. I'm tired of $250 minis coming out every 3 weeks.

Agreed!!! the biggest thing for me is in this package is the new radio, sure ill use it just to say i used it but i'll have mine on the ebay chop shop if i don't like the feel of the radio. Im too used to my 3PKS.....a radio with out drop wheel is nothing to me. I REALLY HOPE futaba comes with something new with something similar to this where i can data log with my phone. I finally moved all my cars to the FASST system it would be perfect.

If i had planes id be on the FASST system too, the FASST for cars is a flawless system (minus the heat issue but ive never had that issue) but besides that its great ive ran it on cars over a distance of 900+ feet and never had range issues while the spektrum system had a max range of about 300 feet which was a huge issue with the high speed cars. I used to kick into fail safe because of range issues with it. I hope traxxas factored in LONG RANGE for this radio too. Has there bin mention of a fail safe in the new traxxas radio??? That's something i haven't read about.

The way ThunderbirdJunkie read it, it uses the 5? channel receiver that the Summit uses, and they don't have built-in failsafes ITBJRC.

Well if it doesn't have a failsafe I'd definitely throw one in there. A car that fast can freak out a radio system at distance.

after really not having anything but the tamaya clod buster, traxxas did there share for the rc car world with the release of the t-max,anyone would be hard pressed to say traxxas has not done there part for the hobby, and really who thinks racers are holding anything together? most guys never race, they just want to have a great time, and most guys racing have over a grand in there car 1/10 or 1/8 scale, i for one think its awesome, and love to see the hobby growing, glad to see companies that can make it happen making the investment, this is how we get from where we where 10 years ago to where we are now, no comparison, and if you have to use a apple device so what? its a move forward, and in the end if you dont like it dont buy it, but dont throw rocks at guys that will buy it, i road race motorcycles and tires 400+ a set, they are good for one weekend, crashing is real expensive, this is a cheap hobby.and for the money it takes .
you would be hard pressed to find a better value for what we get doing something else, shoot go gulf 2-3 times a week, and see how far 1000 bucks gets you.

keep in mind Doug, this is RTR aimed at most who don't race...
racers build cars and trucks with #1 in mind and will spend most or whatever it takes to win on race day...
and I think the gripe about the App thing is not the App its self, but the fact you need it to run the car to its full potential, that's all..
to me the app thing is cool, and has been out before traxxas put it in a RTR.. neat stuff out there for us to tweak our toys!

Here is a link talking about the Traxxas X0-1 using the iphone app. Sounds like the app records your telemetry.

Junk, and a joke! What was Traxxas thinking? Certainly not a Losi fan but thier new 5th scale 4wd truck sent HPI back to the drawing boards, and this is what Traxxas offers? Swing and a miss! Now back and try again. Seriously!
