Hi Rick, can you explain more about the rotary drive you use? Pic or link?

Pics from the install of the servos to operate the lower MLG doors. Each side will Y harness to the upper MLG door servo.

Added the servos above the fuel tanks to drive the upper MLG doors. Been away working so I've not much to report. Sorry but duty called. I'm going to be using six gear door servos on this install. Two for the nose and two at each main. The two nose gear doors are both analog servos so I'm going to use an old Smartfly EQII that I had laying about. This will let me reverse one of them and adjust the throws of each servo if needed after getting them close with the Down and Locked Programer. I love that thing! Super easy to use.
The mains will use one analog and one digital on each. The upper doors will have more load on them and will get the digitals. The lower doors will be analog. I'll use a Y-harness on each L and R main gear door circuit. Then use the Down and Locked programer to set the travels on the analog servos then I'll simply program each digital to the proper travel with my Hitec programer. Should be fairly simple and very reliable setup. Hope to be back in the shop around the middle of April. The weather is nice and I'm looking forward to getting her airworthy soon.

I would love to go to Kentucky but no time this year.. Maybe next year..

I think the jets are shiny cause they're painted in the mold like comp-arf and a few others.. Looks fine in the air though.

What COG is everyone running?

Took 900 grams of lipos in the nose to get mine to balance at 200mm. Dry weight is 15kg?

Love to know what COG works best?

Painted in the mould... makes it light but leaves the seams . I abrade the surface with Scotchbrite pads to dull it off...

Dave was thinking about it, but need to get the maiden out of the way first!

I have heard it is a good meet, but a hike from Sydney!

Good maiden. I found the factory CG to be too far aft. Here's the video of my second flight. The first flight was landed with more fuel on board so the CG at landing was uneventful. The second flight was landed much lighter on fuel and the slower the airplane got the worse the instability got worse. After three go arounds I was able to make a landing. The worst part was that every missed approach caused the fuel load to lighten and the CG to move further aft. If I were to build another one I'd delete all flap and aileron servos. They are not needed unless you want them for scale or some creative flight control mixing.

Brakes are awesome and the gear is the strongest I've ever seen. I like the airplane and will post my figures after more testing.

I'm interested in your proposal to fly purely on taileron control. I fly an Avonds F15 with this set up. I have an unflown F22 and would be interested to know the control throws if and when you use this arrangement. I have already fixed my rudders and it would be good to fix the flaps and ailerons which previous flyers seem to have commented on. The weight reduction would also be a benefit. Ron.

My cg is as per factory. Yes it ends up being nose heavy because of tank location.

From start of flight to end typically 2 clicks of trim needed.

Wonderful flying jet!

I will fly the jet in a couple weeks weather permitting and get some taileron only data for you.
What fuel tanks are you using?

Kidd, the AB's I ghot from Dream Works.

I flew mine on taileron but also used aileron mixed in just to take some pressure of the elevator stabs, worked a treat and kept the roll rate crisp and responsive, I didn't use flap ever. If you already have your ailerons hooked up I would use them.

Hi Ron,

It's being a few years since I had it but from memory I used about 1cm of aileron throw and half of whatever my elevator throw was for the taileron roll rate. I used the throws that the guys from Hawaii were using at the time. I think it was a user by the name of Pylot who gave me the throws on another rc jets forum at the time.

Regarding my post from the other thread. My f22 is a sky master version. So disregard fuel tank comment.

It does fly great on tailerons though! I do have rudders but there is far too much coupling.
I have set a mix up but still don't use them. I do use rudders for speed brake. Both rudders go in. Works good too.

Mav, 200mm should be ok for first flight. Be sure to program 40% expo to slow the stabs down if you use the full 50mm travel. I settled on 80% DR of the 50mm with 40% expo. I dont like my sticks touchy, especially with a fast airplane.

What fuel tanks are you running?
