It will be awhile before I get to assembling mine. The retract he sent me installs without any mods to the existing formers in the ARF I was told. The retract is powered by a retract servo for actuation, another servo is used to lower and raise the tailhook. I wish I had seen the tailwheel sooner also, as I had already bought the robart tailwheel along with the main gear when I bought the plane.

Tailwheel uses a standard retract servo to operate. This also allows it to retract at a scale speed. I'm sure you could also install an air cylinder for operation. I'm not sure where it would be mounted in the Corsair ARF as I haven't really looked into building the kit.

I been speaking with Earl Aune for a while and he has his TW gear now as a drop in for the TF Corsair. I have one but will fly a little more before replacing the old Robart unit. it is lighter than the Robart unit so will require removing some nose weight!
By the way, the Corsair flies great! Here's my first test flight: http://www.modelairplanenews.com/blog/2012/08/05/exclusive-test-flight-top-flite-giant-scale-f4u-corsair-arf-wvideo/

Maiden flights today at last. NO issues! The Robart electric gear worked perfect. If you have the TF P-40 you already know how it flys. Tracks great. Suggested low rates were fine.

Capt. G.
Pic's look good, glad to hear it flew well. How did the gear doors work? It looks like a pretty simple installation, just curious how they're holding up?

Thanks,

John

The tailwheel doors are fine - no issues. As to the main gear doors, i couldn't make them work right with the electric gear no matter how i adjusted them so i finally just removed them. They might work ok with pneumatics though. Not noticable except on the ground.

Here's my contribution to the tail wheel door saga.

I used carl goldberg 90 degree mounting brackets, a robart scale wheel 2", and a couple of great planes ball links GPMQ3840.

I attached the mounting brackets to the electric tail wheel assembly and used epoxy to attach them to the doors.

See attached photos

Regards

Steve

Oriole

I generally use Silicone clear, it lets stuff move a bit without breaking loose.

Has anyone had an issue with the rudder.

By pushing I can move my rudder about 1/8 inch at the neutral position with the receiver on. When I installed it I made sure to epoxy the arm inside the rudder.

It seems that the design of the rudder control arms at a 90 degree angle is causing this

If this movement is normal please advise

Steve

I noticed this also, it is in the design of the rudder linkage. I owned a H9 Giant Cessna with the same design. It had even more play. I flew it for 2 years with 0 problems. I have quite a few flights on my Corsair (with many high speed passes) and haven't had any problems yet.

I don't like it either, but I don't think it will cause any problems.

Thanks Bushong572

I think its a lousy design also....When I fly it I'll pay close attention to the rudder functionally

Thanks Again

Steve

Rudder has worked fine. I did wick thin CA in the hole to harden it before i glued the rudder on. Here's a couple pics from today - thanks Hellcat 716.

I have 23 flights on mine now.....full throttle most of the time and zero rudder issues. It is a sloppy design for sure but so far it is working out OK.

Word of caution to those with electric retracts. I was working on my Corsair last night and accidently plugged the tail wheel into a channel on the control box that was jumpered for the "Type 1" actuator. Didn't realize it until I had cycled the gear maybe 4 or 5 times and the tail wheel quit. Apparently that is all it takes to damage the actuator becuase it only moves about 3/4 inch in either direction now. The motor was warm to the touch and if you got real close it smelled too. I just simply got the tailwheel lead crossed with one of the mains and wasn't careful enough to double check. STUPID STUPID STUPID!

Apparently the mains will work on the Type 2 setting cause I didn't notice anything abnormal in it's operation.

I will be contacting Robart today. It doesn't look like there is any trick to replacing the actuator so I will just have to suck it up and buy one since Robart surely isn't going to cover that under warranty.

Anyone having issues with thier wing mounts? I have heard there is a potential problem with the wing and fuse which can lead to failure in flight. Has anyone made any mods to this area to strengthen it and can you post photos or info if so?

There is absolutely no problem with the wing mounting. You just need to remember to use the supplied screws to secure the wing. I hate rumors. Everything is fine, my opinion.

I tried telling what happened but got told I didn't know what I was talking . I am trying to get the owner of the plane to come on here and explain . I know of 2 that have had stab flutter, on top of the wing problem that makes it interesting.
