Yep, from many years ago. That shot was taken at the Festival of Giants in Deland Florida. It made it into the May 2004 issue of Model World, a UK magazine that fly-in. It was gas powered back then.

Hi SafeTwire,
I started this afternoon to build the fuselage of my quaker and I understand your pics and comments will be of great help ! Regarding the glue, I plan to use Titebond for the front of the fuse but don't know if it's waterproof ?
Here are some pics of the work completed so far...

For answers on this model and other Antique models visit the SAM site.  We fly these and other models similar to it all over the world.  Mine has a CS version of an AMCO 3.5 diesel powering it.

Hi, I'm back with my questions about the building of the quaker 84 : I'm trying to put the engine in place using an engine mount. The engine would be positioned like this (see picture). Can anyone tell me if it seems right ? Not too advanced ?
Thanks

The .56 is reportedly an ideal size for the 84" Quaker. That's what I got for mine. (Which I have yet to begin.)

Looks like a good position and the .56 will be more than enough...

Bruno,   I'm not really  100 % sure,   but from past experience,  you may want to put   2 or  3 degrees of  down thrust.     Might ask some other members and see what they say.

Otherwise, it's looking great.

Thanks for your answers ! Indeed, I put about  two degrees of down thrust on the firewall according to a previous post of Goldenage.

And a senior member of the club I was a member of  told me to put two little  washers (up and down) between the left side of the engine mount and the firewall (looking from the tail of the plane) to avoid the Quaker going on the left.

Hi everyone,
I'm back with the building of the Quaker 84'...
I plan to vover it (with solartex) very soon.
But I still have a question with the area near the windows.
Since there are little longerons glued on both sides of the fuse, I can't unerstand how one is supposed to cover this area. First covering, and than gluing on the plastic staff ?
And what about fact that the covering will not be parallel to the fuse ?
Thanks !

I've got another question, regarding the distance between the tank and the engine.
In the documentation of the OS .56, they say the tank needs to be located as close as possible to the engine.
Since I guess balance of the quaker may be a little triggy, I plan to locate the battery as close as possible to the firewall.
If I do so, I need to move the tank about 3 centimeters towards the tail.
Anyone knows if this might be a problem ?
Thanks in advance for your attention

Brunox, put your equipment in and move it around to find balance before you cover. If you use film covering it will not have much weight, that is what I did for my Quaker Flash that was covered with Micafilm. The covering can attach to the window frame area or you can build up around the frame openings to attach covering (heavier) and attach windows with r/c 56 or similar adhesive.

Brunox,

So far your Quaker is looking good!

The Saito instructions say to mount the tank close to the engine because it won't draw from a distance without a fuel pump. Nonetheless, muffler pressure should be sufficient to allow you to put the tank up to a few inches aft of the firewall. Since the center of the tank should be close to the same level as the carburetor, perhaps you have room to put the battery pack under the tank? If you choose to do so, you might want to add a trap door under the battery so you can get to it without having to dismantle your fuel system.

Thanks for your responses !
Indeed, I made a little trap to be able to remove the battery without needing to remove the tank. But he battery is too high to put the tank above it, so it must be positionned at about 1 and 1/2 inches from the firewall.
I'll try to balance the plane without covering (solartex) to get a first idea ...

Thanks. Wonderful plane ! I printed the pics of your plane  you posted (before covering was done) and they were of great help for the building of mine !
Here's a link towards an article (in french) and a video of a guy who says there is nothing for him like slow flying...
http://www.jivaro-models.org/buccaneer/page_buccaneer.htm

I would like to see some pics (or to get some builder's tips ?) of the windows on a quaker.
If anyone has some...

Bruno

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice again... In fact I've two questions :
On my old Sig Kadet, the elevator has a "triangular profile" so that it can be very close to the stab

I'm wondering if one is supposed to sand the elevator and rudder of the quaker in the same way ?

And about the position of the tail on the fuselage : if I follow the plan, the elevator won't be able to go up (because of the fuselage) and down (this time it will hurt the rudder).
Maybe 1/2 inch, for the whole tail of the plane, towards the cabin or to the contrary towards the back of the fuselage is not a problem ? and the same for the level of the rudder ?

Thanks

Bruno

Sand or add a piece of triangle stock... And fill in the lower with scrap balsa.

Thanks ! When you say "fill in the lower" do you mean to put a piece of balsa under the stab (I mean : under the piece the rudder is attached to-don't know the exact word) ?

Yes, add a peice, probably 3/8x1/4 to the rear of the fuse making sure to keep the hinge line straight.
