Dan, it seems alot of people on RCU and RCG have done business with Ralph. I was given his contact info by a friend at our field.

I made a couple flights today with my quarter cub. The wind was blowing from 10-15 and probably gusting to 20. Pretty exciting! It reminded me of my time living in Wyoming where a calm day was 10mph wind. Good crab practice.
Ed Shepherds Aeroworks 50cc Cub recieved her maiden Flight in that wind today, Phil did the honors. With a little flap and all that wind the plane was quite the floater. The DA 50 sounded really nice with its cannister exhaust.

I snagged these pictures from SDP. I believe Jerry was snapping the photos. Ed's Aeroworks 50 Super in the Cub Crafters paint scheme.

I recieved my engine back today from Mr Cunningham. It fired right up with about five Flips. The back of the ignition indicates that I can use 4.8 or 6 volts for the Battery.

This is a picture of the Mod, mostly noticable in the intake manifold. The left shows the EI mod. The picture on the Right is with the Magneto.

My engine test stand is bolted to the table that my Disk/Belt sander is on. When the engine started it did a nice job of re-distributing balsa sawdust evenly throughout my garage.

Glad to hear the motor is running good now.  As we discussed today, the EI is better than using a starter to get things going.

Did it run pretty smooth?  Hopefully save the plane from a lot of vibration.

I need to improve my test stand throttle set up so I can make more precise throttle changes. But it seemed to run great.

Tonight I set a simple clamp for the throttle and was able to get a nice steady idle. The engine is running good and I think it will have enough power.

After reading this thread in it's entirety I am pooped and I have not started. I plane on using the Saito 57cc twin gas motor. Ron, I hope I do not turn into a pest with questions but now that you are the guru of the 1/3 scale super cub where else can I go? I sure would like to hear from anyone that has done the 1/3 scale super cub with the Saito 57cc gas motor, I don't plan on any 3-D.

Sherman, the aircraft in post #492 has a Saito Gas Twin. Looks like the perfect engine for this build to me. I considered it, but decided to go a less expensive route with the used 80 I purchased. I think there are some youtube video of that combo.

Enjoy your build, ask all the questions you like. I am learning as I go just like you. This is my first airplane over quarter scale.

Ron,
How significant was the boo-boo in the rear of the cabin with the error on the plans with the wrong measurement given? Am I correct that the error is in the rear of the cabin?

I forgot to mention that this plane will go straight to floats and the maiden will be done on floats, the trick will be getting the correct prop for that first flight, probably a 24X6 or a 25X6. I have done several float planes (currently flying a 40% super cub and a eflite 68" super cub-all on floats) but you never know when things will go south.

The error on that rear post was that I had the old instruction manual in a new kit. BUSA nis not sure how this happened. A good guage of referance is the die cut rear window plywood. It will show you the basic measurement. If your building your fuse stock without any modifications you should not have a problem.

I have only flown small electrics off floats so I won't be much help in that area.

Not to hijack the thread but I was wondering if anyone out there has the color formula for Cub Yellow in Behr latex paint?? I'm doing a Supercub but the full size prototype is painted in Cub yellow. The owner of the full size has offered to let me take an inspection cover or other small part over to the paint store for a color match but I was hoping someone might have the formula?

Ron I hope you don't mind the intrusion.
I had Behr Premium Plus Semi-Gloss EXT latex color matched to Solartex Cub yellow for my 1/3 AMR Cub. The Solartex was too transparent for my taste so I tried making it more opaque by spraying latex over it. It helped but didn't cure the issue. I should have went with a white base coat them yellow.

Here is the mix code as it appears on the can:
CLRNT AX KX T
OZ - 1 - 0 1
384th 196 24 162

I am having trouble getting the formula to show up correctly. The 196 should have a 1 over it. the 24 should have 0 over it and the 162 should have 1 over it.
Here is a few pics of my Cub so you can see the color. These were taken yesterday during a flying session.
Later!!
Anthony

Attended an Aerotow in Tucson today and observed how to tow gliders. There was 3 Tugs that pulled most of the Gliders, a 60% Cub with a 275cc 3W, a 1/3 Busa Super cub with a DA 100, and a large Ugly stick. The Super Cub seemed to be the Tug of choice until it hooked the tow line on the Barbed Wire fence and was instantly jerked out of the sky. The 60% Cub towed a 1/2 scale glider up with no problem. SunDevilpilot aka Phil will probably post some pics later.

One of the most interesting combos was to see that Giant Cub pulling a small Foamy Glider. I thought it would fold the wings for sure, but it did fine.

One fella lost a nice 3 meter Glider, simply lost sight of it and it flew away. Tough way to loose a plane.

Great pics Phil. The 1/3 Busa had somthing we had never seen before, the owner covered the fiberglass cowling with Iron on covering. Thats one way to get a color match.

I had the chance to take a ride with the tow plane at a full scale glider field in Germany. After releasing the glider the tow plane rolled over (almost a split S) and dove back to the field where he released the tow rope like a dive bomber before going around and landing to hook up the next glider. I hope the model survived...
