Status: offline 		Many coats and first ones thinned down with a little acetone or epoxy thinner from your supplier. West Systems 106 is my preferred one. That shaft angle looks a bit wonky. Take a square on side picture. And I see the plans show it like that but half your forward thrust is directed upwards. You should look at a FSR-V boat that has it's prop under the boat. That would be a better angle.

Status: offline 		If you warm it up till it gets some color and quince it you can put a fair amount of curve in it. Work slowly little bits at a time.

I've found 1kg and 1 gal kits......  1kg is probably not enough for a 48" boat ?
Is this a "good method" for a first time epoxy finisher ? 
The more I read, the more confused I get.......   :-) Playing cards, alcohol, acetone, heat gun..... etc. ?

Status: offline 		A little goes a long way. You must consider that if the resin is 1kg and you use all of it the boat will be 1kg heavier. When applying the epoxy you want to do thin layers but not too thin or it will take very long to cure. Then sand back and do next layer.

Status: offline 		Because you using strips of wood instead of one piece like when you build a wildthing or cracker I would think that adding a layer of woven cloth would be to your advantage. otherwise you have to glue every strip against the previous one (if you understand what I mean) otherwise the boat wont be watertight. Try and get some 4 or 6 oz woven cloth. Once wet through you hardly see the fiber. Unless you know you can seal it from the inside. That is the other option that I have seen the guys use.

Status: offline 		Progress is slow, painfully slow......  BUT it is progress !
I laid up the first layer, first side starting at the bottom.....
Second side, I put one strip at the bottom and one at the top and will fill in between them. I think this will work much better.
I'm using 3/32 balsa for the first layer.  A little extra thickness for sanding to shape.On the first side, the bow came up pretty. On the second side, I was using shorter planks and could not get as nice a twist in them.....  Experience is a very good thing.

Status: offline 		Looking very neat there. Looks like there would have been space for a gas motor. What is the exact dimensions as I want to build it for a gas motor and am wondering how much bigger I must go.

Status: offline 		This is a 1/10 scale by Garry Finlay 37", that I had enlarged to 48"....

I've notched out the keel so it's only 5/8 high right under the flywheel and this leaves 5/32 clearance on the deck boards.......
 This is an ASP .46.....

These are specs on a Magnum 46, which I have been told is the same as an ASP 46.
Bore: .86" (22mm)          Stroke: .77" (19.6mm)
          Displacement:  (7.45cc)  Practical RPM: 2000-17,500
          Weight with muffler: 16oz (453g) Weight w/o muffler: 13.1oz (374g)


            Mounting dimensions are the same for the Magnum XLS 46A Engine
          Distance between mounting holes on same side:   .67"   (17mm)
          Distance between mounting holes opposite side: 1.65"   (42mm)
          Distance between muffler mounting holes:       1.46"   (37mm)
          Width of exhaust opening:                      1.06"   (27mm)
          Height of exhaust opening:                      .26"    (7mm)
          Width of crankcase neglecting mount flanges:   1.36" (34.5mm)
          Width of engine with mounting flanges:            2"   (51mm)
          Height center of crankshaft to top of engine:  2.75" (69.8mm)
          Overall height:                                3.46"   (88mm)
          Height bottom mounting flange/top of engine:   2.72"   (69mm)
          Length to front of drive washer:               3.35"   (85mm)
          Overall length:                                4.49"  (114mm)

Status: offline 		Unfortunately 6" longer is only going to get you less than 1/2" taller.
My .46 sitting 8 degrees down is still less than 4" tall.
Specs for a Zenoah 26 are :
Mounting Dimensions: 180mm x 193mm x 181mm I'm not sure which is the height, but..... =   7.86"  X  7.59"  X  7.12"

Status: offline 		Some of the motor would stick out. The thing is your length is overall but because of the step the actual running surface is (I'm guissing) 5 inches shorter. I would make it 54" running surface.
