I have had an issue where every once in a while my propane solenoids will stick and not open on start. I have had this issue on two engines now, each from a different mfg . To get them to open i have to disconnect them and run battery currect directly into the valve and it will pop open and work for a few flights before this happens again. since this is only a start gas valve, i'm not worried about any problems in flight so if i can, id like to repair this ...

is there anything i can use as a lubricant for these valves ? like a teflon lubricant spray ?

The valves are a poppet design and can suffer with too much pressure on the inlet port. This pressure can change if the propane bottle warms up or is recently filled. Best Solution is to open the gas bottle valve only after the solenoid valve has opened, the ECU will then control the shut off.

try switching the propane and kero lines. propane is dry with no lubricant.   use the propane selenoid for kero and the kero one for propane, see if that helps as it did for me a few years ago.

Voy, if you do that, be sure to "always" close the valve from the pump to the engine while filling up. You would burn your plane if the solenoid happens to stick open. I have seen that so many times.
I know you do it, but a reminder never hurts.

In fact, I wouldn't do it !!! The solenoids costs so little as compared to the total investment in your plane !!! And you already know that that solenoid is not working properly.

Jack

PS: great job on the cowl flaps, btw.

Jack, good point on not risking malfunction in the fuel supply system ... I will just try to free up and lubricate the gas solenoid, and if it still gives problems, then i will just replace it ..

all the best,

Hi

I also wouldn't change the solenoids. I still use gas and once in a while let 2 drops of silicone oil thru the gas line. Be carefull with the type of oil you will use. Some may attack PU lines or solenoid retainers. Shock absorvers rc cars silicone oil work very nice. Never had a sticking solenoid in many years

Regards

nuno
