Status: offline 		 I came across a SIG 1/5th scale kit at the LHS the other day and noticed it is about the same price as the Goldberg.  I built the Goldberg way way back before it became anniversary edition kit, so sort of partial to it. 

So those who may have built both, spew forth thine information and tell us the difference good and bad.   It looks like the CG bird can take a larger motor based on the package.

Status: offline 		It depends on what you're after, the Sig is more scale. But I think that the Goldberg with the clipped wing is the best flying of all the cubs

Status: offline 		Without question.....  The Sig 1/5th scale Cub kit is the best kit I have ever built (I have built both the Goldberg and the Sig 1/5th Scale Cub).  The Sig kit really falls together and flys great.  The Sig is  a much more modern design with laser cutting and plug in wings (Only applies to the 1/5th scale kit....  The 1/4 and the 1/6th scale Sig Cub are much older designs).

If you came across a sig 1/5 scale cub for the same price of a goldberg I believe you should get the sig.
Those goldbergs go for $119.00 at tower.
Sig wants $222.00 for their 1/5 scale cub on their website.

Status: offline 		Those goldberg cub's are good planes too. I've built a bunch of them over the years,
clipped-wing and  long wing. Powered with anything from 40's to 90 four strokes.

Status: offline 		Built them both.....They are both great planes. The sig kit is more of a builders kit and much more scale. The Goldberg Kit is now laser cut and goes together well and flies great.

Status: offline 		I may go back to the store next week and double check the kit. The price was $129 on it, but I am not 100% sure which scale it was.  I noted the engine size listed was 40-60 4 stroke.  If it is the 1/6th scale they are asking too much, it is listed as $89 or so on the Sig site. 

Is this the one where the fuse is stick built compared to the CG where it is mostly plywood?  The CG I had was die cut, not laser cut, thats how long ago it was.  They were still in Chicago too.

I think the 1/5th Scale Cub is a little too small for a 20.  You could get it on there, and it would likely fly just fine, but the plane is built pretty light for such a motor.

That's the 1/5th Sig Cub shown above.  I am currently finishing the Sig 1/4 Scale Cub, which is an entirely different method of building (Sticks).

I converted this one to a Super Cub, flaps and all.

Status: offline 		That's the one I was thinking of, a lot of work, looks good. 

Too much work for me at the moment, my time is taken up with a top flite GE P-51 that I am spending a lot of time just on the landing gear, so Im looking for a quick build 4 channel easy flyer to put the DLE on until I finish the 51.  When I built the CG Cub it took me about a week of nights to build and cover, the SIG 1/5 looks like it would build quick too, but I think it would be light too, the CG may be beefier. My Friend who has built at least a dozen or more of the CG cubs thinks the DLE would work just fine in it, he has flown them with an OS 120 4 stroke that he currently has in a 1/4 scale cub.

When I finish the Mustang, and my friend gets his projects done, we may tackle an 1/8th scale scratch built B-17. He is planning a very close to scale version down to the bulkheads, ribs and longerons.  He has the forward section from bulkhead 4 mocked up already and looks pretty good.

The 1/5th scale kits look like I can complete for under $200, which is perfect. I have the RX and motor, just need 4 servos, the tank and covering.

What diameter are the wheels?

Status: online 		If I'm not mistaken the Goldberg kit is a one pice wing and the Sig is a two piece wing, that is why I went with the Sig!
