Monokote will not stick well to fiberglass. It has been done but it IMHO it is not a good way to go. As far as paints go, there are a lot of options. Depending on the color and if it is a gasoline engine and you want to use rattle can paint i would use Krylon available at Walmart. Past that, if it is a glow engine my next choice would be Top Flite LusterKote available at your LHS or Tower. If you are going to use spray equipment for gasoline you can use household exterior latex. (i recently completed a 50% Smith Miniplane with latex). For glow a 2 part automotive base coat, clear coat would work. Hopefully some of the other fellows will chime in with even more options.

I have had good luck with Ultrakoate, as I Stated in another post I have just used some for parts of one of My Planes, the company seems to boast that it covers any surface rather well and so far I have found that to be true. Is just My opinion from use but I think it all has to do with how well you stretch it and using the perfect amount of heat and remembering to let the iron do the work, not to apply to much pressure.

Hope that helps..

Yes, enamel will work fine for a gasoline powered plane.

I have covered cowls and wheel pants with monokote, and Utracote, it just takes time and patience but when done it matches the color of the covering better than any paint and adds strength to the parts too boot. I do it because I hate painting with a passion.
