That is a great looking bird. Sure hope that DLE 20 has the poop to hang. Had a MVVS 26 on a 69" full body Yak 54 from QQ . It flew great and would hover, but nothing left. Had to fly it out, a real pain. A lipo fire got it out of its missery. Anyway, I really wanted to thank you and son's for your outstanding service to our country. Very unusual dedication these days.

Have one grandson in Afganastan, started in army intel, now training with Special Forces. Another one also there, now training in ordinance disposal. I am ex-101 airborne from the 50's, so a little nuts seems to run in the family. Have a retired navy seal buddy and AF tail gunner also retired. Both are engine collectors and not much of flyers. Let me know if the power is not good enough, and will see what we can work out with the collectors. It would be a true privilege to help, so don't be shy.

Roger that. Thank your grandson for me. Thank you for your service as well. The oldest son is out now. He is working and going to college. My youngest gets out this year and is going to Penn state. I'm darn proud of them both. Americas youth have really stepped up these past 10 years. Makes you feel good about America. Back to the plane, a guy at our field has one with a 20cc on it and it has plenty of power. Thanks for the offer for the help. I will not be shy asking for it. Heading for the LHS today to get the servos I need. Have a great day

have fun flying it rember to change the plug in the DLE and read up on the common qaurk's

I'd recommend a IBEC for some weight saveing on the yak and a single A123 flight pack

I use one on my 30cc slick

+1
I got to fly a VV Yak/DLE 20 combo at a fun fly last summer, and it was decent, but a little heavy on the wing. That particular one used two fairly heavy nimh packs for rx and ignition. Pay attention to the weight, and I think you'll have a fun plane!

I used the RCexl kill switch that goes into the gear port on the RX, can run everything on one battery. I dropped in a single 2300 MaH 123 LiFe. Finished the ARF last night. I did a CG check with everything installed but the control surface control rods. Manual suggest 6 inch from the LE. Way nose heavy at 6 inches. I Will check it again tonight (since installing the control rods). I have the 123 as far back as I can get it. Hope to try and get the engine running this evening. But "baby it's cold outside"

The build went fairly well, but the manual was not worth the paper it was written on. Scratched my head alot, countless forum searches and questions. It was indeed a learning experience.

Finally got to the Field with the Yak. The only intention was to break in the new DLE 20cc engine. Once I got fuel into the carb it fired right up. Manual says one tank of fuel at 4000 RPM's for break in. Ran one tank through then another. No issues! The eight oz tank gave me 15 minutes @4000 RPM. Pretty darn good and will only get better, the more the engine is run. Now some minor tweaking on the control surfaces (which I did last night) double check the CG, then will be ready for maiden flight. The DLE sounds sweet. Fuel mix is 40:1. The pic is without the canopy installed, wanted to see what everything on the inside was doing while it was running. Got a recommendation from one of the guys to place small diameter nitro fuel tubing over the Rx antennas (both main rx and satellite extension), as the vibration from the gas engine could cause them to break off. Makes sense to me. Having said that, going to double check all the nuts, bolts and screws for tightness.
Happy flying

Looks good! I flew the white/red/black one; I think the orange looks a little better! Let us know how the maiden goes...

Would have flown yesterday, but wind was a little stiff. I like calm winds for maiden so I can get a good trim. That and I noticed when I go to the field that I had installed two different aileron servo arms. Just didn't notice it. Anyway hopefully this coming weekend. I want to get somw video. So will have to be someono there with me that can either fly my plane while I shoot video or shoot video while I fly the plane

I had one of these planes back in the day with an OS 91FX and it had plenty of power. I am flying a 65" MoJo with a DLE 20 on a Xoar 17x6 and it has tons of power. The plane is a ton of fun and your are right, you should be able to get 14 minute fight easy.

The same company use to make an Edge 540 also and it was a great plane too.

Anyone still flying this plane?  I have one and after 3 flights the front end vibrated apart.  I'm thinking of rebuilding it for electric.  Any thoughts?

But beware, I have also heard of the weak motor mount area.

You would be better off to build a mojo 65 and stick a DLE 20 on it. http://www.swanyshouse.com/mojo65/mojo65.aspx
