Status: offline 		I was able to maiden the Pica spitfire last friday.The DA 50 was plenty of power for 26 lbs. As I was running down the runway I was thinking nose over so I had held a little up in the elevator. Well at about 5/8ths throttle and half way down the runway she started to lift off. Not enough speed so she started to wag back and fourth. I poured on the gas and climbed out to a good altitude and made my turn. Once she went stable I was able to relax a little. Had a six minute flight and decided to come in. Sat down a bit hard and the oleos dropped all the down. Popped one of my wheel skirts but other than that no damage. Next flight I will bring her in with a bit more speed. Its all worth it when a plan comes together.

When I starting reading your post, my heart start pounding!! I have seen more warbird and or any plane come off of the ground before its time and the end is not good! Very good save on your bird and the maiden flight. Sorry about the landing!!

I have an H9 Spitfire 60. I have a problem with the flaps. They are under the wing and mine are a little hard so the servo is binding all the time. I am using a standard 3003 Futaba. Can I fix the problem by installing a high torque servo? Anyone having the same problem?

Status: offline 		Im at 5 inches from the leading edge at the fuse. when rolled inverted, it took very little down input to stay level. Thats right where I like it.

what do you mean by "... a little hard..."? Do mean they are stiff? If so, is it because of the CA Hinges being stiff? What did you use to glue them in?
Mine are OK, but if you try to extend the two flap arms full open as far as they will travel, it is difficult to get them to go to that position. The flap arms don't need to go full throw to work fine. If they are binding because the flap arms don't go full throw, you can cut a little balsa out of the wing in the arm slot for more travel. If you CA'd the hinges and they are binding, you may have to remove the CA from the bad flap and then re-glue it.

Good job on the repairs there Toshi. Now, do tell, is that the static spinner for the kit converted to a flying spinner?

Although I have it to go only about 50%, it still makes the buzzing sound continously.
Someone told me to use alcohol on the hinges, but I am not sure if the alcohol will affect the hinges.

Remove the rod from the horn on the flaps and see if the buzzing stop. If it does, the servo was not at the end of it throw. I have the H9 Spit and I had to play with the rod length to stop the servo buzzing. Also play with your flap servo ATV's Please post and let me know if this help!!

I was just in my workshop looking at my H9 Spit wing and remember one thing to stop the servo buzz. The hangar 9 setup on the flaps, one servo move both flaps, as you know, and it was a pain in the "A" to get the clevises the right amount of turns. I found the right flap rod was not the same lenght as the left one. So I had to play with the turns on the clevises to stop the buzz. Now here come the fun part, hook up one side at a time and see if that side buzz. If not, hook up the other side and see what happen. If that side buzz, play with the turns on the clevise to stop it.Then hook up both side and see if the buzz come back. Also check that both flaps come down equally. I know the next H9 Spit will get two flaps servos setup.
I hope this help, but to tell you this plane land very good with not flaps.

Status: offline 		Yes there are. I had read many post on the correct c/g and thought I would just use the one I had read worked the best. It is not fun at all to maiden a unbalanced airframe. I have several with not good results. I am totally satisfied at 5 inches though. I hope it works for you.

Status: offline 		Mine had the same problem; buzzing servo. I simply used an old 180 degree retract servo with a 1/2 inch arm. No proportional flaps, but no buzzing or stalled servo drain.

Status: offline 		It is probably time to up date the brotherhood on my progress, I have posted several photos of the rebuild on this plane a couple of months ago. Here is the painting photos. I am waiting for my dry transfers from 'GetStencles' right now. Vicky at Get Stencles is wonderful to work with, I highly recommend her for your graphics. I am doing the east asian MK XIX Spit with the black Panther on the side and her work is wonderful. After I get it cleared and the balance of the weathering, I will post some more.
