Building from a glass fuse is not all that difficult at all, a little different, but not harder any any respect.  Personally I love the method.
Yes Sierra's are a little more money, but well worth it.  They are almost flawless, quite scalelike, and robust.   I have 6 sets of Sierra gear, and I'm happy with all of them.

Chad also makes a scale tail feather kit as well.  Helps keep the weight down, and improves the look.

Thanks Ham639 for the BT Spitfire stuff. I'm glad to finally be part of the Brotherhood.

Sonny I will be posting a lot on my build because I will need help.

What engines work good in this plane?

Hey Brothers,
I just receive my copy of RC Sport Flyer and in the Hot Productions section and they was talking about a company call Shulman Aviation and their Electric EM Brakes system.
Here is the link to their website below.
http://www.shulmanaviation.com/index.php
Take a look at the video!!!
It would be nice to lock your brakes and do a engine run up, ( like the full scale planes does ), or slow your plane down if you come in a little hot!!

"or slow your plane down if you come in a little hot!!"
And you hit the brakes and nose over...

I saw one this year at a contest come in and take out his solo prop before he nosed over and smacked his tail.  On the other hand, his CARF Spitty looked great while he explained the brakes to us...

I hear you Casey!!!
I have a good friend who have a grant scale P-51 and he hate them! Every time he use them on landing the plane will nose over!!
Do any one know if the full scale Spit's has this problem?? I know on my H9 Spit, if I land and the tail is still flying, she will nose over, even if I have full up elevator. Now if I come in and do a three point landing, no nose over!! I will have to look at a full scale Spit to see how far the main sit from the wing leading edge!!

I think a lot of times, the problem with nose overs and Spits, are do to the flaps not having enough throw in them.  I see a lot of people using between 50 to 70% of throw(giving lift not drag). If you look at a full size Spit, the flaps are closer to 90degrees when in the full down position(lots of drag, very little if any lift). Not that this is always the case, but can effect it for sure.

Spitfires like Mustangs will nose over if given the chance. The wheels are pretty close to the leading edge by design. If you take a look a most fighters from that period several have the same issues.
Spit flaps are only for drag period. They are either up or down with no in between. The Seafire required some Lift from the flaps so they fashioned wooden wedges and shoved them under the flap TE creating maybe 15Degrees of flap. After take off the pilot would jetison the wedges by activating the flaps for a second or two..interesting.

Necessity, the mother of invention, or in this case innovation, so I can hear it now; the wing design is not suited for short take-off rolls as needed for the carrier deck. Later a maintenance guy says just stick a wedge in there and allow the retract pressure to hold them in place and after launch cycle the gear handle to release the wedges.

BobH;
Thanks for the info. I just look at a video of a full scale Spit with the flaps down and they look like they was 90 degrees to the fuse!! In my book, that would make them drag brakes!!

I agree 100% Bob.  Misuse of the flaps, coupled with the inherent problems of the gear placement, can make for a handful to land.  I had the experience of spotting for a gent during his 3rd and 4th flights with a CARF Spit(not the same one as in the above post). His 3rd flight was great until he deployed his flaps(about 70 degrees). His plane instantly wanted to balloon and wouldn't settle in on final.  He finally raised his flaps and came in hot landing in the grass at the side of the strip.  After the flight he changed the throws on the flaps to 90 degrees, telling me that he had been told that he needed to set them to 90 degrees, but that it seemed like too much and he reduced it.
The fourth flight went great, and when it came time to land, he made his turn to final, and dropped the flaps.  This time, there was far less ballooning, and it locked in for a beautiful landing on the mains with a short rollout(and no apparent tendency of a nose over). Huge difference.

Check out at 1.56.  That sure looks like one taking off with flaps down at 90 degrees.

Can't get enough of this vid
