My fathers day present, to myself of course, my kids are good..but not that good! lol

Parkzone mkIX with added invasion stripes dirty wash & paint chips. I did have the mkII with a 1250kv motor upgrade she was a bullet but met her end courtesy of overhead wires, sooo enjoyed flying her over the last 6+years she had to be replaced, so that old motor is on standby to be fitted to the mkIX

Here are some update pictures of the Top Flite Spitfire Mk IX build. As you can see I still have lots of work to do. Sitting the left and right wing to the center section. The link that I gave you has been a big help on the wing build. I am going with Robart retract in the wing, but, if you are going with C.J. gear, take a look at his setup. Will sheet the center section tomorrow if I have time. It is so good building again. This is the part of the hobby I love!!

Status: offline 		Thanks, it was a hot day at about 95F with density altitude at around 9000ft. This was the second flight, engine did over heated. I improved the cooling by opening the cowl a bit more and per suggestions went with a 25X10 instead of 26x10 on the 3W85XICS, this coming weekend I'll be at Warbirds Over Pikes Peak and will try this smaller prop. This suggestion came from a person that fly a Sach 5.8 on a 45lb P47 down in Pueblo, I believe that the flying field over there is around 6000ft. He had the same problem with a 26X10 and was solved when he went to a 25X10.

My H9 Spitfire 60 was built with flaps, but I have nothing but trouble with them.
Servo is always buzzing and when not used the plane has a rattling noise in flight.
I have tried everything to loosen them but I just can't.
I would like to just eliminate them, since they are not necessary anyway.
Would it be OK to just epoxy them? I am fairly new to this, and I don't want to create a new problem.

Hi Chris,

I have 4 pounds of lead strapped on to the 2 pound heavy duty standoffs that a fellow hobbyist built me, but I do have two full size servos all the way in the tail to actuate the elevators.

But the way, my name is Barry, Ken Simmons is a photographer who comes out to the basin to take photos. We're very lucky to have Ken.

Hi there, thank you and you're right, this was at the Sepulveda Basin. I did do one flight last week, but had to belly it in on the grass. After a Sunday afternoon of troubleshooting, pneumatics fixed, and had 8 flights two days ago, when the pictures were taken.

Harry, does the servo buzz with the flaps full up or full down? What do you mean by loosen them? Without the linkage connected to the flaps, do they move freely by hand without any binding?

If you don’t want to use the flaps, no need to epoxy them, just leave them in the full up position with the linkages and servo still attached and just disconnect the servo wire from the receiver. You may want to trouble shoot the problem with the flaps sometime in the future, non flying season "winter"?

The problem is that one of the flaps is too hard to have fully up. If I connect the servo fully up, it buzzes. If I don’t connect it at all, I hear the rattling noise in flight. I either put too much of that hinge glue or I forced the flaps  too close not living any gap at all. I flexed it thousands of time. I used a hobby knife to scrap the almost imperceptible gap between the flap and the wing but to no avail. I put alcohol and flex. Would you suggest anything else I can do besides gluing them? Thanks,

I feel the best way to correct this problem is just cut the flaps off the wing .  If you want to have them , cut some slots in the flap , and use CA hinges  to reconnect them .  From what I know about the H-9 Spit , a lot of pilots say that the plane land well without them .... Just my 2 c worth ...

Status: offline 		marquisvns, thank you for your special pictures. I enjoy everybody's pictures but your side view provides a perfect example of what I ended up with on the vertical stabilizer of my PZ Spitfire Mk IX.

JORDY, I like your invasion stripes and, like what I have already done on my GUNFIGHTERS and PZ Thunderbolt I plan to eventually add stripes to the bottom side of my Spit to aid my chronologically challanged eyes in helping me determine airplane orientation in certain maneuvers.

Today, assuming flying conditions hold, final tests will hopefully show if my modifications will have tamed this high strung thorobred down to my particular tastes. Please wish me luck.

I had the same problem with mine; binding at either the up or down position. My resolution was to use a retract servo and a 1/2 inch servo arm. Flaps "up" has the arm pointing straight forward. Flaps "down" has the arm pointing straight to the rear. No more buzz and easy to set up. My plane needed just a little bit of down elevator with the flaps down, so I mixed it into the programming.

Mine is set up with an RCGF 15cc to which I have just replaced the factory carb with the carb for the DLE 30. Should give it a little more kick.

How do you like the RCGF 15cc gas engine. Starting, Idle, mid and max power?

Using a retract Servo sounds like a great solution, in fact Spectrum has a fully proportional/end point adjustable retract servo 'Spectrum A7000 Retract Servo'
