I received my BT Spitfire kit and its very nice. What gas engine would be good for this? I was thinking DLE 35RA, DLE 55RA or should I go bigger like ZDZ 60? I would like it to fit inside the early Mk cowl without chopping it up. I'm going to have lots of questions on this build should I start my own build thread or post hear?

I say post your build here on the thread. This is one of the reasons I started it. Concerning the powerplant choice, what can the cowl handle with the least amount of cutting and what is the weight advertised as.

Thanks.

Ok I will post hear.

The cowl is 5 3/4" wide 13" long and tapers from 7 to 9" high. I have the fiberglass fuse so it should be around 20lbs when done. I'm not into speed but I would like to be about to have some extra power and run a 3 blade prop. I would be gas and I was think DLE 35 or DLE 55 or possible Evolution 40gx. What others would be good and price is always an issue.

Hope to start the glass work tomorrow!! We had a few good days for flying so I had to get out of the shop. You know how that goes!! Still have not made my mind up about painting or covering it. Please post pictures of your covering job!!!
It will not be long before we do hit 200 members in the Brotherhood.

I would go with the DLE-55 since cost, reliability, and power are desired. My Meister Scale 109 friend is running the 55 with a Xoar 20x10 3-blade and weights in about 8 to 10 pounds more than what you are planning. But remember the Spitfire will most likely require nose weight, so the 55 will help there and the power will make up for it if more is needed.

OK, So as promised, I have started dinking with the Comp-ARF Spit. First thing I am doing is the wing. I wills et-up the gear and flight controls and will "install" 8 browning .303 machine guns. I plan to do an early MArk...before cannons came into play.

First, in order to get the gear in, you will see a pencil mark where I have to relieve the wood to get the gear to slip into the mounts. A good Dremel with a sanding wheel did the trick.

Jeff,

You have all the best toys!

Why can't my neighbor be more like you....he flys foamys over my house ..I did warn him that I will vigorously protect my airspace though....he laughed until he saw the shotgun come out in the garage

 Hi Steve,
looking good on the tail section.  It's going to be worth it making all these adjustments. I am sure.

Sonny,
glad to hear that you were able to get out to the field.  Sure beats being cooped up inside all weekend.
The glassing will get done soon enough.  Looking forward to a progress report.

Jeff,
go Dremel, go.
It has become my favorite and most used tool.
What landing gear are you using?
Like your idea of the browning machine guns. MK II style.

I was not able to get anything done to finish my Hangar 9 Spitfire over the weekend.
This cold with laryngitis is really getting me down.  At least my voice is coming back now.

I have decided to go with a rectangular mirror as it is easier to build and the mirror glass itself
is better to get.
I will go to the local automotive store and get some bendable mirror tape that they use for car mirrors
until a new glass can be installed.
The prototype round mirror that I made was too big and would probably work on a 1/4 to 1/5th scale Spit.
At least I got some practice in grinding glass/mirror glass, as I have never done that before.

Andreas
Happy building & flying.

Casey...feel free to move to MN...I'd like to have ya. Of course, no palm trees here, but plenty of Spurce and other assorted evergreens...some stunted due to lack of sun/warmth!

Andreas, I am using Sierra gear, and I think my 3rd or 4th Dremmel

I love the Kyosho 40 sized Spitfires, flys very nicely too

Attached is a picture of my recent 2nd Kyosho ARF Spit (early version, glossy 3 color applied coverings), the landing gear placement is different to my first one being that they are not wheels to wing tips, as was my first one.

A little slower than old scale guy. Have the horizontal stab done and elevators started. Will post some pics over the weekend. Too much work and not enough build time.

Yep, you can. I got a Wing Manufacturing Co. B-25 that is bout half way covered with flitemetal. even though the polished aluminum look is great, I plan on painting over it to get a true metal panel look. I have a small wheel, looks like a cowboy spur on a stick, that I use to roll along the edge of each panel to give it a look of rivets.

your plane will look really great with that finish. I saw a large foam B-17 that had been covered with that stuff and detailed some. WOW..

I got mine at Hobby Town, but HH was advertising that price...........unfortunately, most places are now sold out of them. I couldn't believe it when the owner of my local Hobby Town offered it to me for that price; he had two. I bought one and the guy behind me bought the second one on the spot. Such a great warbird, It's interesting why they would be discontinuing it.
