I just finished the GP SuperSportster 60. Let me start off by saying that this kit has been around for a while and as such, building is a little more involved than some of the newer laser cut kits. The kit came complete with all the things you would expect in the kit. This kit builds up well, but I did find the instructions to be a little difficult to understand in a few places. But once I figured out what to do, building was easy. However you do need to be prepared to do a lot of sanding. Building the cowling/ forward fuse area in particular resulted in buckets of balsa dust.

The instructions for this kit have you with a single aileron servo, which I did not like, so I put in dual aileron servo's mounted half way out on each wing panel similar to how it's done on the four star 60.

I mounted a Super Tigre .75 up front swinging an APC 13x6 prop. This combo gave me a plane that fly's nicely at 1/2 throttle. When adding power, you get nearly unlimited verticle.

Your right this is a builders kit.

I have built this kit several times, and it doesn't compare to todays jig saw puzzel kits.
But the flip side to that is this kit teaches you more about building.

I have built this airplane into a float fly stand off scale Schneider racer. Flew great and looked good. I flew mine with an OS 91 4-stroke.

Building this kind of airplane is what taught me basic scratch building skills.
You didn't waste any time building this. You were in school and your traning will pay off in the future.

Enjoy

Thanks for your comments. This is actualy my 5th plane, so I already knew many of the basics for building. But, it gives me something to do in the winter months.

I love the Super Sportster. It tracks beautifully, looks great, and is fast and responsive, yet easy to fly.

Yes I agree, It did take a little more work than say a 4*. But I think the end result is a very nice plane to fly. I put an old OS 60 FRN on mine and even this makes it a very fast plane. It is loads of fun to just take it up and simply just punch holes in the sky. I used the single servo on the ail. to keep it simple and I love this plane.

Does the 60 size have the same landing gear( taxi-ing) problems as the 40 size? I love my 40 size, but redid the landing gear.

I don't know what the 40 size has for gear, but assume it's similar to the 60. The plans have you install the main gear out in the wing and that looks a little to weak for my likes. I fly off grass and the gear takes a beating anyway due to the rough field we fly from. I opted to install my main gear differently. Instead of putting them out in the wings, I reworked the fuse bottom just forward of the wing by adding a block of 1/4" plywood there and attaching aluminum gear similar to what the four star 60 does.

I have not had any problems taxi-ing with this set up.

Thanks. That's what I did on the 40. When I get around to the 60 I'll do the same.
