Status: offline 		I know what you mean, I'm no longer married (single for over 20 years now) and I took advantage of the other bedrooms to move all my r/c stuff into. I have about 31 kits to build, most of which are giant scale. I also have a bunch of plans and cowls for them stached in those rooms....Being single is great but it is also lonely....I talk to the planes but they don't talk back.
Back to the other flap now....

Status: offline 		This time, since I know what I am doing (I think), I cut all 3 slots out, recessed the balsa for the hardwood, cut the hardwood out, and epoxied the hardwood into place with 30 min epoxy.

I'll wait until tomorrow before I do any more work on the flap.

I need to really get going on this. I have a full wood kit as well as the foam core wings. I think I need to do the built up first.

Now on to building the parts lists.

Status: offline 		I filled in the the void spots with balsa and spackling compound.
One needs some touch up sanding and the other needs to be completely sanded.....I removed the dings from the balsa by using a very moist paper towel and rubbing alcohol.
Water can be used too but the rubbing alcohol evaporates quicker and you can get on with the project quicker.
Next will be the push / pull mechanism to make these guys actually work.  I'm using 2 servos for each flap.
I have an Idea of how to do this....I just hope it works. If it doesn't , I'm open to suggestions. In fact, if you have any ideas now, let me know before I get started.

Status: offline 		There are 2 steps missing just prior to these photos.

I'll see if I can recover them.....it is where the servo horns connect to the flap.

It took me 5 hours this evening to reach this point...

I'll think twice before I attempt fowler flaps again..

Recovered photos included.

I'm sure that there is a better way to do this but this is all my mind could come up with.

I'm anxious to see it work.

Tomorrow I will attach another photo.

I'll clean the mess off of my building table tomorrow and start building in ernest again.
Sorry to leave you guys hanging....It will feel good to be building rather than repairing.

Before cleaning table and after cleaning it............

Status: offline 		I took my soldering iron back to Sears tonight.........it was about 20 years old and just wasn't working as well as it used to. (Craftsman)
THey took it back and gave me a brand new one.......no charge.........still under lifetime warrenty.

There you can see how the stabilizer is built and see the plans for it.
on the plans each stab is drawn with the side view. The top and bottom of the stab is built on a sheet of balsa.

Status: offline 		I've been spending a lot of time on the flaps...nothing worth taking pictures of yet. I have one installed and am setting up the servos for it now.....I've put dozens of hours into the flaps.
It better be worth it....I will connect the radio to them and test before I sheet the bottom of the wing....

Status: offline 		You are correct........I never gave that a thought.....Had a kit cutter cut the wood and I used what I got.....It worked out ok.....anyhow, this is really a KIT BASH the way I am going about it.
It is fun....I'm getting anxious to see the finished results.......do I glass the whole thing or do I use ultracote.......probably glass.

Status: offline 		Remember that clean workbench.................I've been working...............still on the flaps.........servo setup is in place....
I have to get my radio set up for the flaps within a day or two....if they work, I will put the aileron servo in and test it out too.
After that, the other wing.............Hopefully, it will go faster now that I have learned a little.

I am using fully threadead rods so that if there is rubbing it will file its' way clear......I've done it before and if the rubbing is minimal it works.
I will test before I close it all up.

Status: offline 		Aileron being epoxied into place........30 min epoxy
aileron almost finished.........need to make provision for more up aileron......down is ok. A little sanding will fix it.

"500-Internal Server Error".........there is a problem with the resource I am searching for and no pictures are being displayed.........Why do they have to keep messing with things that aren't broken?   

I've been trying for over an hour to make this thing work........anybody have any possible solutions???

Tried again at 10:00 am...........*&*&%%!!@^&

Status: offline 		Not lots of seams, just lines for reference points. You are correct about the patches in the little holes. no scraps used in sheeting....full 48 inch sheets where ever possible.....Epoxy was put in those little holes to insure a firm hold on the hinges .I didn't know how to do things so I experimented on the flaps until I got them working.....You can find better ways. This was my first attempt at fowler flaps. The other wing will go easier.
The patches won't be seen when I have completed the plane.
Was a good question. I am still learning.

Status: offline 		I worked on the wing for about 4 hours tonight...didn't accomplish much but here are the pictures. Fowler flap is extended.
Also included are some pictures of the wings of my Hostetler C150.  This is what the finished product will look like on my Lancair.
Notice the reflection of the television in the wing. There won't be rivets or panel lines in the lancair wing unless there are pictures that contain these items.


They fixed it up again........can't load pictures tonight..............

500 - Internal server error.

Status: offline 		A little sanding and the top of the wing will be done.  The white and pink stuff is spackling compound.
I'm still trying to make up my mind as to glassing the whole plane or covering it with ultra cote.

I had a tooth pulled today so I worked on the wing for about 8 hours.
The bottom is completed too except for the retract setup.

I think I'll work on the other wing before I work out the details on the working of the wheel covers on the retracts.

I'll be glad when that is done so I can get back to the fuselage.
