Status: offline 		Hi all, had to forgo flying for a few ......due to many things, but i'm getting my stuff back out and I was wondering if and where, someone can get "Stick" models, or plans??

I love building so a kit would be just right. I've had an Ugly stick, two Midwest sweet sitcks and two each of the Big Sticks from tower....

I have seen those planes since Phil Kraft made the first one and still have a GP .60 Stik NIB...just in case I get bored with ARF's......

They are still there, you just have to look. Ebay and RC Universe are the best places. Will cost you a little more these days. You might also try here:

Sticks are making a come back, there are the traditional kits and a great number of "modernized" kits, but it is hard to improve on the original classic "60's" Stick.
I have a number of them and our club have a number flying.
All my Sticks are scratch built - all you really need is the template for the ribs.
 Some of my "not so standard Sticks" include a 70 Four stroke powered one with interchangable wing - can make it a low or a high wing. I can also fit another fuse to the wing with a larger 90 two stroke for hot flying. Thus 4 plane combination in one. See yellow unfinished pics, now red Stick on pic

Another one (yellow Stick pic) has a 2m wingspan. I've build this one with a bigger wing (normal 1.7m) and it get pulled around with a 60 two stroke. It has another fuse for a 108 two stroke for towing gliders.

A third Stick is a proper stick Stick. This one has a composite fibre fuse casted  from a tree in my garden that had to be chopped down. So this is now a Muttley theme Stick. The texture and shape of the tree trunk was copied and the Stick built around it. It is an excellent flier. Rumour has it that Muttley have already shot down the Red Baron....

Like you, I've flown Sticks a lot in the 70's then moved on to other planes and about 2 years ago rediscovered STICKS. I just love them.
Also included is a Stick a friend of mine built, I covered it with Solartex for him and spray painted it. Probably one of the nicer ones I've seen in a while... (Blue Stick)

Go for it, youwill enjoy your Stick - it is an antidote for the ARTF crap we are flooded with from the East.

Status: offline 		WOW!!! thanks guys!! I'm really glad i posted this! i do have a rib template and just need to get some other demenisons and add in TLAR .......

I will check the list of sites and recommendations ya'll were so kind to provide.....and i'll keep looking also!

the guys around here have gone all ARF and nobody even has any plans left.....but i've done a lot of scratch building so this will be a cake walk....

Status: offline 		You can buy Sweet Stik plans from ebay. I bought a set just a few days ago. They also come with a tracing of all the parts.

I think it would be a simple matter to change the windtip shape and tail plane shape to a more Stik type model. These folks make nice kits with quality hardware. I just recieved a Loadstar and the Krafty 60 that is the same plane as the Aircruiser 60 but with a cabin added. I have already built the Aircruiser 25. These folks ship fast also.

If you like SPADS they also have a Spadstik that can be built in just a couple of days.

Status: offline 		Have a look at "Jensen Ugly Stick build" on the scratch building forum and enjoy your read! Also do an internet search for Free ugly stick plans, you should find several. I managed to find some tiled plans to build mine from. Mine is electric and flies really well. If I crashed it and wrote it off I would immediately build another. Need I say more!

I have already found some plans and i think, with 23 spare engines from .049 to .90....i might have several sizes of sticks!! i used to do a lot of pattern, aerobatic and quickie 500, but the reflexes are telling me to stay with sport flying......just the age thing!!

Status: offline 		The Jensen/Kraft stick seems like a classier and more forgiving design than some of the later variations. Open framed wing with half ribs rather than soulless leading edge sheeting, a bit more dihedral, washout, and differential built into the ailerons. Sizewize its between modern .60 and .40 sized ones. Snappy with a .60, but a modern schnurle .40 would fly it OK.

Status: offline 		Thanks cutaway, I had the original and it was as you say, more classy and forgiving, more dihedral and washout and lots of differential. after advancing in my flying, i built several more and each had mods to the one before. i ended up with a flat wing, very light construction, larger ailerons, elevator and rudder, no differential, and a Enya 91 4stroke up front. that plane would dance when i said dance.......wind was no problem and i took a second place in our funfly in 1992. a dead flight battery really did the trick and i moved on to aerobatics, racing and some pattern to enhance my outlook......but the stick was the most "FUN" i'll come full circle soon!!!

Status: offline 		I've slowly been working on a making set of router templates and tooling to duplicate he Jensen/Kraft kit. Since I planned on building several of them for other people, it made more sense to do it that way than do 1-offs. All the tooling is done except for the aileron router template. I've got rib sets and fuselage parts cut out for about 4 of them right now, and a stack of elevators/rudders has been fab'd.

The tough part was notching for the 3/16" secondary spars that support the half ribs. I made a notching jig for my bandsaw to cut those stacked a few at a time. The smallest router trim bit I could find was 1/4", which was fine for the rib outline and main spars. I suppose it wouldn't be a horrible deviation to make those secondary spars 1/4" square, then I could do them with the router

The Stiks are so easy to build, you really don't need a kit - just a template for a rib. The rest is as easy as getting into trouble with the wife....

Status: offline 		Hello Bundabasher. I know all about getting a good airfoil and making a wing and coming up with your own version of a Stik. I used the airfoil from a Thunder Tiger "Tiger Stik" and built several different models. I had a standard wing plan and paper templates for the ribs. I would glue my rib pattern on a stack of wood and bandsaw out about 10 ribs at a time. I will post a few pics of some of my planes all built around that one airfoil.

If you split the typical strip aileron into flap/aileron (some ARF's are already split like this) and reverse couple the flaps/elevator like on the more advanced C/L aerobatics planes, it should be pretty easy to induce a stall.

Status: online 		If you are looking for an "Updated" stick kit... they are being produced in Canada by MR Aerodesign and it is called a 'Gold Finch'

If you ask them - they can produce it for you in several different sizes - the largest that I have seen used a 20cc gas engine.

Status: offline 		I snagged the Little Stik from eBay. No room or tooling for scratch building. Seen the same kit go for $105 and  $170 last month. There's a Big Stik .20 at $77 ending soon.
